Our drive from Prescott to Alamosa was much longer than expected especially when we factored in the time difference, but we saw some great things along the way. There was a place where we stopped called "the four corners" where we got to stand on four states at once (Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado)!! A lot of the Indians had stands set up where we enjoyed all the handmade jewelry, pottery, and tribal art of the Navajo Indians. We arrived in Alamosa, Colorado late that night and Kim's friend from home, Will Floyd, welcomed us to the valley. Will just moved out to this little town in August to be an intern for a year at a homeless organization called La Puente there. He was put in a house with three female roommates who graciously lent us their beds for the night. We all had a great night's except for Rachel who was sleeping in the bed of a roommate who unexpectedly came home. Surprise! The next morning we woke up and went to a local coffee shop that was part of La Puente as well. We enjoyed warm drinks and conversations with a local artist. Will was an amazing host and showed us some great parts of Alamosa along with his friend Michael who joined us. We hiked to see a beautiful waterfall that was tucked away inside a cave that we would haw never seen without Will. The water was freezing, but well worth the pain because of how magnificent it was. We played around in the cave for a while and then went on to see the Great Sand Dunes. As we walked out to the dunes we felt as if we were in another country. The winds just happen to blow in such a way that the sand from all over the valley is collected in this one spot to create the dunes. We felt as if we were in the middle of the Sahara desert as we hiked up the dunes.
