We hardly knew what to expect. Seattle had been an amazing experience, we truly did not know how Oregon was going to measure up. We found that it was defined in a completely different way, it was defined through the people we met and lived with. Our first stop was Portland, there we stayed with the Stutzman family. This was a family that Sandy used to spend time with each summer. They welcomed us to their home with warm beds and home cooked food. Ben took the next day to show us around Portland. We went to Powells, a bookstore that took up an entire city block! That may be our favorite store of the whole trip. We ate downtown and spent some time walking around. Then Ben took us to Multnomah Falls. We hiked to the top and got a foretaste of what was to come later in the week. Afterwards we went home and Nancy and Don had us for a fantastic meal of homemade pear sauce, strawberry jam, apple butter, biscuits, and ratatouille. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing and made sure that we pet the llama, Tim, before we left the next morning. Their hospitality defined Portland for us, they opened their home and made us feel welcomed to relax. They ministered to us, in a way Christ must have, making us feel unashamed that we needed to rest and recuperate, they allowed us to be comfortable being ourselves.
