We traveled to the windy city leisurely. Chicago provided beautiful end of summer weather. We stayed with Matt, an improv comedian. During the day he does research on jet engines in a high rise on Michigan Avenue. At night he either coaches a highschool basketball team or performs at Improv Olympic. Improv Olympic is a comedy club that does long improv, where a team performs a longer show off of one idea given by the audience. The next day we decided to walk down to Wrigley Field to see if we could get cheap tickets for the Cubs vs. Astros game. We got standing room only tickets for $10. The game was fantastic despite the fact that the Cubs lost. That night we went to the Art Institute of Chicago for free. Afterwards we went to Giordannos for Chicago style pizza. Each night we got to eat with Andrea and Joe and their daughter Reed. Andrea was Sandy's camp counselor. So we definitely had two good nights and a good day. Through Matt we got to see a different side of the city and experience things we couldn't have afforded because we knew the famous "Matt Manley". He promised Sandy a magical weekend before we got there and certainly delivered on that promise. While we were at dinner on Friday we thought "Why not try to see Wicked tomorrow before we leave?" The next morning Gretchen went to go visit her cousin Elise, in a northern suburb. The rest of us went to Navy Pier and Matt got us a tour on a speedboat. Finally we all met up at Wicked. UNBELIEVABLE! It was so much more than we hoped. The creativity and score were so impressive it brought tears to our eyes and goose bumps to our skin. When we left the Theatre we went back to Matt's packed up and took off for the great unknown of Des Moines...
