Hello from Manhattan,
Today has been an adventure.   We started out our day with a faculous Bagel from Murray's Bagel a local.   The best we have had and he has us hooked.
We took the 50 minute ride to the Bronx.   As the subway left Manhattan and moved further and further in to the Bronx we noticed the riders changing.   Soon we were the only white people on the train.  We were thinking " two of these things are not like the other and the rest of these folks are kind a the same."   It was a different experience.
We walked to the Zoo about 3 blocks and noticed we were in a different place than we had ever been.   Into the Zoo we went and headed straight for the Gorilla display.   A very nice exhibit.   You watch a 10 minute movie on the Congo and then the room walls remove to show the Gorillas around you.  Pretty cool.   They have a lot.   We traced Steve and Kirk's Ancestry and found they had many relatives in the exhibit.   One Gorilla was obviously a thinker and we were able to elimintate it from the research. Hahahaha

This was the last exhibit we could really enjoy.   We walked out and bang there were kids everywhere and I mean everywhere.   It was field trip day.   We had noted on the way to the Zoo that the black children are as cute as anything as they are very outspoken and loudly excitable laughing at cute girl buying fruit.    However get 100 outspoken talkative grade 3 kids and they cuteness fades FAST!!!  We tried our best at the Rodent House, the Butterfly house and Reptile house.   It was just not that much fun.    The zoo is "bootiful"(as Suzanne from Queens would say) , but not with horde loads of little demons.   We tried the Tiger exhibit and it was the breaker as you had to line up for a while just to get in.    So we took the overhead gondola ride that divides the zoo.   Right near the end of the ride and the end of the zoo we saw why it was so busy.   There was so many buses I could not get them all in the picture.

We headed out to an Italian area in the Bronx.   We ate at what is rated as one of the top Italian restaurants in all of New York, Roberto's.   It was excellent as everything is made there and fresh.   However the menu was a bit hard to understand.   We both ordered and took our chance.   Mine was good and Korinnes was very very good.   It was nice.  We walked the Italian neighborhood seeing people rolling cigars, meat markets, cheese and pastry where I had a cannoli.   YUMMY!

We then headed to the Subway.   We soon left the Italian neighborhood and entered the Bronx we have heard about.   It was run down, gang looking and scary.   We started to feel uneasy and walked pretty hard for 8 blocks even though it was up hill.   On the way we saw a landlord evicting some one from a building.  Hahaha   Nothing happened, no one approached us or even looked at us funny but man we were uncomfortable.   We were mighty glad to get on the subway.  No pictures as I was too scared to take out the camera.
We were done the zoo early so we headed to South Harlem and found it much less scary.   We saw ST John Divine Cathedral the largest cathedral in the world.   My Mother and I saw it in 2001.   It soon after had a fire.   Between the fire damage and major restoration going on it was not the same experience.   We did go see the garden where they have a sculpture there I love.  See picture

One of the few stain glass not boarder up

Off to Central Park North.   We saw the south half the other day and now decided to tackle the top half.   It is less groomed than the bottom half with the exception of the Gardens.   I chatted with Kirk on my cell phone.   Thanks Kirk for arranging our Rider tickets.  We both love the park, it is a real break for us tourists as well as locals from the roar of the city.   It is easy to find some piece here in a city of ants.

We took the cab home got some afternoon quiet time for a couple hours before heading to Drowsy Chaperone our evening show.    I will review that tomorrow after we see it.   I want to rest after we get home tonight.

Take care
Korinne and Vaughn
