A Big Apple Hello to You!

We started our day out heading to Grand Central Station.   It was just pouring rain.   Warm but very wet.   Yes Beryl, Wendell, we did get a bit wet.   I took it like a man, but I do hate getting wet. ahhahahah
Once there we walked the around the building.    It is huge and has over a million people pass through it each day.   We had a bagel for breakfast in the Food Market there.   There are several stores as well.    We went by one and thought of Ursula (Korinne's Mom).  In fact we stopped and took a picture of a display.   We thought Ken would appreciate a plate with an explanation of why his food is black at his house hahahahah.  see picture

Off we headed through the rain and down fifth avenue weaving a bit to shop and see the sights.  Our first major stop was Saks Fifth Avenue.   We did not stay long.   Women's tops were $500 plus etc.  Moving on we passed Rockefeller center.

We stopped into a small store called Amercian Craftsmen.   It has a wide assortment of jewelry, home decor and art all made in the US at reasonable prices.   We made a few purchases here that got us pumped up.

Next big excitement was H&M a chain store that sells a line by Madonna.   Korinne was disappointed when yesterday we were at one and she could not find anything good.   Well today was different as she bought 5 item and one was from the Madonna Line.   All five came to less than $100.   We walked through St Patrick's Cathedral.   This large Cathedral was the wedding place and funeral place for many a famous folk.  Most notably JFK and Jackie.

Off to the Museum of Modern Art   (MOMA).   I was not particularly excited to go.  Modern art is just not a big thing for either of us.   But we had a really fun time in spite of that and the fact that there were hordes of people escaping the rain.   However are fun came at the expense of the artists and there absurd art.   We noticed MANY pieces were called "untitled"  so we thought we would help them with suggestions for naming the pieces.   Here are some!

La Constipation by Picasso

Zip it and Zip it good!   (eyes are zippers if picture is unclear)

The Statue of Liberty's Dreadlocks from the sixties

Everywhere at Night ( If you see anything in this picture other than the relfection of the room in the glass, you let us know)  There was a blue one later on too and We called it SKY.

Finally a good one.  I like it anyway.

Starry Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh

After a few hardy laughs we were on to more shopping.   I got a Speert Comb.  And we went to a faux jewelry store and had a great time and service from a nice lady and made a purchase.

We had lunch at a very busy eatery and had a panini that we shared.  It was good but not memorable.   We opted to get it to go and stood on the street to eat it.   The rain had stopped now and it was very pleasant out.

We walked through the Disney Store and Trump Tower.  Into Tiffany's and gazed at many a shiny things.    We looked at a very plain pen and even asked for there cheaper ones and were shown pens starting at $150 and they were not even as nice as some we had seen for $10 in gift stores.   Out of there and onward.

We went into FAO Schwartz a huge toy store.   It has really been overhauled since I was there last.   All kinds of stuffed animals, half the Star War cast made out of Lego to life size, and a baby adoption center.  That was something.   An area cordoned off where you had to see a nurse to enter and pick out a life like looking baby to adopt.  No ideas on price.  Finally before we left we used the washroom (you always need a bathroom story each trip hahahah - Kirk this is for you)   SO... I am sitting in the stall.   I had noticed on the way in the one beside me had been used and not flushed.  As I am sitting there it started to make sounds (no one was in there).   I noticed under the stall that the ground was getting wet like rain.   It worsened and I got out of there asap as the pipes where moaning and bubbling.   As i left by in a hurray, I glanced in to see the toilet spraying like a small fountain all over the stall.   Let's all take a moment to thank the lord you are not the janitor at FAO Schwartz.   AMEN!.

We shopped a bit more at Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn and Finally Bloomingdales making no purchases.   We were pretty tired and once again did more than I had planned so we headed home for a respite before going for dinner and dancing at 7pm.

Tonight we went to Swing 46, a Jazz Dance Club.

It is a funky club and we had a great supper.

The Band was fabulous.   It was about a 15 person Big Band from Harlem.   Everyone in the Band has at least 15 years experience as a pro.  The sound was perfect.  Greg you would love this place!!!!!!!

The music was perfect for dancing and that is rare as most bands may sound great but it is hard to dance to.   We were able to do a few foxtrots, swings, jives and even a cha cha cha.  They had a singer for a couple songs and she had a great voice.

Korinne was in heaven and we both had a lot of energy we thought we had walked away over the last few days.   The songs were long but we never had to stop in a song from exhaustion.   On a couple songs my shoes were splashing from sweat hahaha but we kept dancing.   Sorry Greg we did not have room or time to mooch but did look good on the dance floor.   It was a definite highlight.

Coming home we walked through Chelsea our hotels neighborhood and appreciated it's alternative diversity and the stores that cater to it.  Stores like Rainbow Station", Rainbows and Triangles" and The Blue Store".   The advertising in the neighborhood is also different then at home.  see picture.

It is a lot of fun.   We feel super safe and it is a quiet neighborhood with a precinct one block away.

Well that is it.

Tomorrow we see Queens -  Queens the neighborhood that is not Queens in the neighborhood like we did tonight.  hahah
