In preparation for the drought-breaking rains we were told about yesterday, we slept in.  Awoken by bright sunlight streaming through the cracks between the curtains - a nice breeze blowing - a perfect drying day - so off with one set of bed sheets and did a load of washing.  Once this was on the line, we headed for Shear Outback, which is a modern museum dedicated to everything about shearing and includes the Australian Shearing Hall of Fame.  We spent about a hour going over the exhibits which were very interesting and extremely well displayed - obviously did no have to depend on part time volunteers to build and set up this one, which was only completed in 2002.

Architect designed and rivaling the Stockman's Hall of Fame in Longreach in concept and design (but not size), it is really excellent, and to find this facility in a town the size of Hay was somewhat surprising Display of Shears

.  We paused for a cup of coffee in the café when I notice ominous storm clouds approaching and darted back to the caravan park to take the washing off the line - the wind had twisted much of it around and over and under the lines such that the lines were intertwined even - at least the sheets were dry.

Back to Shear Outback where I had my coffee, and then we walked out to the shearing shed where we had a most interesting talk and demonstration by a retired shearer.  He was extremely informative and although there were only 6 people there we all had lots of questions as he made the talk so interesting.  He sheared a sheet and explained what he was doing as he went - very quickly he did it too.

By that time, the rain was bucketing down as we walked back to the museum.  By the time we got back to the van park (only 5 minutes), it had stopped, so I very much doubt the drought was broken in this area.  Perhaps they may have received some substantial rain somewhere nearby.
Have remade Ted's bed, and the rest of the stuff has gone into the dryer.  He is reading whilst I write this diary.  The rest of the day we will just rest - this sightseeing and touristy stuff is exhausting.

Off to the library tomorrow - this one only charges $1 with no time limit (and they kick off the kids playing games for you!!)

Tonight roasted meat loaf for dinner (I hope).

Next report will hopefully be from Deniliquin, if we can find the internet facility.
