Suffering, pain, hopeless, drugs, poverty.... being helpless to help them; I mean truly help them. I was driven to my knees in prayer. What can I do? And then over the months He began to show me.
When I met Alicia (not my internship partner), she lived in a house the size of your walking closet, with a wooden structure, walls of plastic and carpet...no water, no visible bathroom. She has two little girls... the oldest Lettie, is severely handicap, unable to walk or talk; she is ten
And then something began to change in this woman, as she would tell me her needs I would lead her to pray and ask the Lord to provide. I began searching for her to go to church with us...meaning walking to where she lived and literally caring Lettie, her daughter, in my arms over the rocky footpaths to church. We began praying for a wheel chair. And God gave her a wheel chair out of the blue! As we prayed and the Lord began to work... Alicia, went from being oppressed and downtrodden, to a women filled with peace and a joyful heart.
You know what, she still lives in the same house, same surroundings, same problems, but she's met and fallen in love with the One who will help her through. You can see it in her face. Each time I see her, she is full of such peace and she laughs! Alicia thanks the Lord for his goodness and mercy. I am amazed! Her daughter Sandra is now going to Betania Elementary school and growing like a weed. Of late, Alicia's found work and we are now praying for God to provide walls for her house.
