I ventured out to the Botanic gardens where I lay in the sunshine listening to the birds amongst the stillness of the gardens…….which was then completely shattered by an Adele song BLASTING out over a PA system in the grandstand area! They were checking the sound system for a concert that night and played the song over and over and over again. I finally left in disgust after 10 minutes.
I then moved to another hostel near the Little India area of the city to get a different view of the city
Another day it was a visit to the wonderful Singapore Zoo where a baby orang-utan nearly brained me with his lunch of branches which he dropped just where I had been standing moments earlier.
It was the lead up to the Chinese New Year celebrations so the city was buzzing with people shopping for their family arriving and the partying to begin. So there were a lot of symbols around the city. 2013 is the year of the Snake (same as the year I was born). Lots of eating and cooking to be done. One pork shop had queues out the door and along the pavement so I assume it’s the best place in town for spare ribs!
Went to the cinema quite a few times as it was at least a 5 hour journey in Sri Lanka to get from the house to the nearest cinema in Colombo! So not really viable, but in Singapore there were a lot of cinemas and at £5 a time quite reasonable for a traveller. PLUS it had air conditioning which was always a bonus – except of course when I had to take in a sarong as it was TOO cold inside.
Anyway, I head back to Singapore on 5th March for a few days until I decide what to do in Malaysia. So plenty of time to check out other things that Singapore has to offer.
