Day of Departure... still trying to get the Dell Mini9 mini computer to work properly so I can actually remain gainfully employed.   The Dell Mini9 is great for weight but constantly locks up, crashes and freezes when adding software.  it won't perform.  Now I wish I had just forked out for an Airbook.  Let's hope the Tico's have good internet access and plenty of computers, as I have not printed out ONE travel document, tour, hostel promo sheet or even a map.  All I have is a Costa Rica Travel Guide by Moon's.  I'll be expected to stay on top of some work between the bone drilling and zip lining... not sure how this will happen without a functioning laptop with wireless.

I've packed a new *used* deluxe waterproof jacket I bought at 2nd Ascent mountaineering store in Seattle.  This jacket was $400 at REI, so it was a very welcome find as a "lightly used" product for $70.  I have pair of hiking boots, a "Seattle Sombrero" and a couple cheap digital cameras.  $500 in cash, and some money on a US Bank Visa prepaid travel card.  They are about the ONLY bank that issues prepaid cards over $500.  Other packed items include the mini laptop (2 lbs and only $375, running Windows XP, if it runs at all...) some moisture wicking socks and shirts, and some lightweight quick dry pants and shoes.  It all fit in one backpack and weighed in at 39lbs.  geez, I thought I was over the 50# limit!  You mean I could have packed more raingear?  All of this could be redundant if I'm in too much pain (or too medicated) to do much hiking.   The KILLER backpack I bought at 2nd Ascent has a detachable day pack.  I've stuffed the digital camcorder and cameras into this, along with cords, travel guide and... toothbrush!
