Samaipata....or Sammypatter as I perfer....I wee town of about 4000 peeps 3.5 windy road hours west of Santa Cruz....we caught the plane to Santa Cruz then jumped into a shared taxi for about $5 and settled in for the windy, landslide ridden drive to this tiny haven.

It is a colonial town and you can just about see horses tied up outside saloons here and  spinafix balls blowing across the street...ok you canīt but if you smoked enough weed you could ...not that I would know of course!...Anyway it is a beautiful quiet little town with lots of little cafes a beautiful Central Park and dusty cobble stone streets...once again it seems to be one of those towns that foreigners come to and decide that wish to stay awhile so they set up a shingle of  small business and become part of the communtity...hence the honey skin products...hiking tour companies...cute cafes and book shops..and stylish backpackers Me on top of the waterfall
Me on top of the waterfall
.  They mostly seem to be europeans living here ...Dutchies mostly from those we met ...all enjoying their little slice of heaven in Bolivia.

Of course Nene and Frey are in town and it happens to be a long weekend and this place seems to be anythign but that quiet rested little place....there are people on holidays enjoying all that Samaipata has to offer and there is a buzz in the air.

Whist having lunch we over hear that there is to be a fiesta ..party in town as a new bar is opening...the word is spreading liek wildfire thru these dusty little streets and we have been told about it many times before we get back to our hostel...it would be wrong not to go ...right!!! :o)

Anyway we start our evening at our fav cafe and then whilst walking home decide we might be too tired to fiesta...but maybe one drink at the The Black Sheep bar across the road from our hostel - owned by Dutchies..then off to bed.   Yeah havenīt we all heard that one before...anyway we run into some others that were also staying at our hostel...one was working there...the Bolivian band were playing up a storm in the pub and we were ordering more than the one and starting to tap toes....soon we were off around the corner to the fiesta for the enw bar opening....

We walk into bofires...musicans and danicing...at first glance I felt like we wer in across between Midsummers nights dream and a Sherwood Forrest  Robin Hood party...hippies hippies everywhere dancing up a storm..young one s old ones Gringo, Bolivian and  European....everyone was there....the party was a hoot the musicans amazing talented...old Bolivians sitting watching...I am not sure they knew what was all going on but it was a fiesta after all and everyone was enjoying it...the DJ also came on and it was Hippies doing House in the mountains with a full moon hanging over head...it was a blast!!...i think I got hoem about 5.30am...making the next day long and slow for me!!

We also did a big hike in this town...there are many to do and the scenery was beautiful...we probably climbed and scrabbled for about 5 hours seeing waterfalls and lots of mountains.  Two days later when walking the streets of Samaipata it was back to itīs sleepy little self again...we had managed to catch it at itīs best and it was now time to move on....ahhh the dreaded night bus  to Potsoi....
