We arrive into Quito in darkness but of what a view...basically we are in a basin of fairy lights!!!! The altitude is around 3000metres.....and it's very pretty at night! We are of course staying at The Secret Garden and Aussie and Ecuadorian owner hostel in the old town. What a place it is soo cool and beautiful...the terrace on the top deck has tWhe most amazing views over everything and whilst we had eaten we had arrived at dinner time...huge long tables were set up the din of laughter and conversation in many accents could be heard while everyone tucked into some yummy looking Thai food that was only $4. They cook each night here and like everything else here the food is generous and great quality.
Freya and I share a twin room for US$10 per night on the 4th floor...dorm rooms are US$8pn...this is the first bed on all my travels that is comfy and I would definitely say this is the coolest backpackers I have ever stayed in...mosaic arty tiing...murals painted everywhere...doonas on the beds...water bottles everywhere...free coffee, tea (big selection) and milo...hammocks on the roof top...ponchos hanging on pegs on the walls so if yu feel the chill just throw one on...eclectic colourful painted rooms and walls....i doubt any two are the same colour ....lots of sofas in nooks and crannies to chill on and internet with free wireless...yay...that's why you are suddenly getting all my updates
Frey and I are doing Spanish lessons for 2 hours each day so we will see how that all goes...hmmmmm.
Tomorrow we are venturing out of town to Otavalo...approx 2-3 hours north to the biggest market day in South America....can't wait.
See Otavalo day out..
Sunday in Quito was pretty non eventful we went to an internet cafe and took 3 hours to upload all the photos and blogs you are reading...you lot are high maintence!!! :o)
Monday we went and looked at a few of the sites in the city and climbed the bell tower of the Basilica..then off to the Turkish Bathes....boy are we roughing it!!! Later in the afternoon we stared the journey to the other Secret Garden in Cotopaxi south of Quito...
