Taganga is a small fishing village on the coast past Santa Marta, 4 hours by bus east of Cartagena. Once again the buses are immaculate and comfy and Freya and I settled in to watch the world go by until we got there.
Personally I was quite shocked at the difference in terrain from coming from the interior...here it is all dried out and desert looking...I for some reason was still thinking it would be lush and green. It is still very picturesque although we did pass quite a few shanty towns...and the amount of plastic bags littered everywhere is disturbing!!
We arrived in Taganga via taxi from Santa Marta, a 15 minute drive over a mountain, mid afternoon. We booked into Casa De Felipe on the hill and once we threw our packs on the floor headed down the hill to the beach...lunch was the order of the day and a few beers then a swim and some photo taking.....a few more beers and dinner in a small restaurant on the beach.
Casa De Felipe is a funky relaxed hostel with a great courtyard area over looking the sea at a distance. lots of hammocks and deck chairs for enjoying the cool evening breeze and chatting with other travelers. We paid US$10 each to share a room with a private bathroom...they had a great kitchen upstairs and open air dining room if people wanted to cook for them selves...we of course just used the facilities for brekky.
We stayed here either side of our trip out to Tayarona National Park...which is the next installment....
