Bangkok
Entry 10 of 13 | show all | print this entry |
Bangkok is so much cleaner than I thought and compared to india and even Malaysia, it is more developed and has found its feet as a tourist destination. But I did not want to come to Thailand. I have an adversion to things that the average person thinks are great. Bangkok is very westernised. In older times, invading armies would rape, pillage and burn, and nowadays the same things happens by companies setting up Pizza Huts, sex tourism, boots and italian restaurants. Its the same reason that I hate spain. That the original culture is impossible to find, other than as one of many flavours in a thoroughly invaded city
There is so much sex tourism around its utterly abhorent. Prostitutes line the streets and sit at the entrance to most bars. Few things are more disghusting that to see an unattractive fat sweating 40 year old male with fit thai escort girls. The fact that she earns more than me cannot fully recompense the life she must experience.
Satruday:
The flight left at 00:45 on 15th March and I did not sleep at all (oh, actually I did while I watched the queen live video). We arrived at 6:50 local time and felt disorientated. I had no instinctive idea of the day, country or the time.
We went through immigration, and booked a tax transer to the hotel, for 1200 bhart. Very nice BMW. Very nice price, but sometimes it takes a while to get the hang of how to do things cheaply. We did not have a rough guide as we are only here for a few days, and the money we saved ona rough guide we no doubt lost on expensive taxis.
We arrived at the hotel, and were very pleased that despite it being 8am, they got our room ready by 8:30. While they did this we went to the breakfast buffet, adn I had a Thai evening meal of fried noodles with veg and beef red curry. It cost 400 bhat each. Like I said the rough guide pays for itself sometimes.
After a sleep, we took skytrain 2 stops to siem shopping centre for 20 Bhart each. We spent a long time looking around this fantastic modern luzurious and massive shopping mall. We bought some wash bags, and looked at the endless make up beauty product stalls.
Hargan darz fondue was yummy!
Beer at hotel cost 250 bhart. while I went on the internet, and also cost and arm and a leg.
We ate that night near the hotel and had lots of green and red curry and a good band played in the background.
Sunday, we went to grand palace after sleeping in and then doing some washing of the clothes I had worn in India. The colour of the water from my T's was disghusting. God bless india. Went to Ho San road. Tried to walk to grand palace, People told us it was closed, so much mis-information, In the end we went to the tourist office told us it was open, and we got a tuk tuk there.Driver didn't want my coke but i wasnt offended.
The grand palace was grand and bright, but just more of the same of Buddhist based religious tourism industry.
Then we paid 1000 bhart and went on a 1 hour trip around the river and canals, passed barge museum and the floating markets. Nothing dramatic was seen, but it was nice to chill with Debbers on the boat
Through the hotel we booked transfer to Siem riep, 1000 bhart each (15 GBP), which is OK.
Went to seafood food court and had early dinner of red curry and a beer (staple here in Tland) and then here at the internet cafe to update trvael blog and facebook!
