Decided to take a day trip to see Uraguay....not sure how much you can see in a day....but gotta be done!! We dragged ourselves out of bed....had breakfast and went out to look for a taxi to take us to the port. Got one no probs....and were merrily on our way through the traffic....and Neil realised he had forgotten the camera....duh! So we had to get the taxi driver to head all the way back through the traffic to get it....hoping we would make it back to the dock in time for our ferry. As it turned out there was no hurry as the ferry was delayed....still managed to stress me out tho! Thank god the taxis werent expensive! Had problems getting on the ferry too...wasnt looking like it was gonna be a good day!! I completely forgot i had my swiss army knife in my bag...and so when we went through security they stopped us! Thought i was gonna have to bin it...it has proved to be the bain of my life!! But i didnt want to have to get rid of it....it being a pressie and all....and i do happen to like the thing...even if when travelling its a pain to carry...so in the end we had to check our tiny bag in....with nothing in it but a knife and a hat!!! Eventually got on ferry...then had to wait ages before it left.....no idea what the delay was but they did apologise!!! Were on the boat about 2 hours....quite a rough crossing....enjoyed cards and coffee and some yummy empanadas! Then we were there....was very hot! The town of Colonia is a cute, but small little place....with cobbled streets and little cute buildings. There are quite a few eccentric shops and cafes. Headed for a cafe for a cold drink....it was so damn hot! Managed to pay with pesos which was a good job as we had no uraguian money! Same old beer....you really wouldnt know you were in a different country! Then we decided to follow the walking tour in Lonely Planet...which turned out to be a hilarious choice!! We had great fun.....Colonia is tiny....and the highlights arent that much.....but just for the fun of it we made sure we saw every house and builing that was mentioned....which entertained us for all of about an hour! Then we were done....what to do now with our remaining hours!! We decided to get some food would while away a pleasant hour or so....only problem was it was now like 3pm and no-one seemed to be serving any food!! Oh bugger!! We wandered from place to place...with no such luck. Eventually found a cool litte pub like place...where we enjoyed a pub style meal....i had breaded veal and chips and Neil enjoyed steak, eggs and chips...oh and a few beers! Before we knew it, it was time to be heading back to the boat, Fortunately the woman had told us that the time was an hour different in Uraguay than Argentina, otherwise we would definately have missed the boat back...and that could have proved to be an interesting scinario! But we managed to saunter back, and look in some of the wierd and wonderful shops...and get there in time for the ferry. No probs going back...no security either!! Seemed further back...guess we were tired! Still it had proved to be a worthwhile trip...even if we cant really say we experienced Uraguay!
