A very unpleasent discovery!!!!!
Entry 112 of 119 | show all | print this entry |
The bus from Rio Gallagos was pretty mundane, there were very few stops overnight, but from what we could see there were very few places in general. When we woke up the following morning patagonia looked just the same, miles and miles of nothingness!!!! Bizarrely 30 mins before we were due to arrive we pulled into a town and had to change buses before continuing on our way. Once we were there we checked out buses for our departure and jumped in a cab to our hostel........ we`d booked it last minute so hoping it was a gud one! Was a very green building but apart from that it seemed just fine......wasnt until much later we discovered its very hidden secret! We dumped our stuff and headed straight to the beach, been a long time since we`d seen the sea, probably as far back as the peruvian coast before christmas. The beach was pleasant enough tho we were starving after the long journey so headed to a cool looking cafe where we sat outside soaking up the sun....... The summer holiday looked like it was finally back on!!!!! After stuffing our faces with yummy pizza and quenching our thirst with german beer we headed off down the front towards the bus station to sort out tickets to Bs As and book a tour of the nature reserve for the following day. After that wandered around checking out the local shops, looking in part for somewhere to have dinner later.... found ourselves back on the front where we had tea in a really cute little welsh cafe where they had cool english/welsh cakes tho we didnt indulge ourselves!! We then just dossed around till dinner time where we went to a cool supposably welsh but really irish bar where we ames had a pie.... yep a real pie and i had some strange goulash thing followed by the largest chocolate pudding in the world..... was so much pud in fact that me and ames both stuffed ourselves silly and still left half of it!! We then returned to the hostel where we seemed to be the only ones with any intention of going to bed that night. The next day we were up early as we had a 7am pick up, at this time most people seemed to just be going to bed, though there was one who still wasnt back in yet! It was a long drive to the peninsular valdes reserve which we werent looking forward to, but fortunately our guide kept us entertained....... mainly with talk of the lazy life of elephant seals! After a brief stop at the visitor centre to see a whale skeleton we were off to a wee town where we were to get a boat out into the bay to see the sea lions and do some snorkelling. Was quite amazing to get up so the close to the sea lions and to see them frolic in the water..... Was also great to see the seal pups which i decided looked like little turds all lined up on the rocks. We ended up doing the boat trip with a load of old american tourists with their obsurdly oversized cameras, my evil streak found it quite amusing when the boat was swaying and we got big waves hitting the boat causing them all to dive to cover to save their cameras..... Why is it people dont wanna see the stuff, they just wanna get that perfect shot. Anyway we left the rough seas and returned to a little inlet where we were gonna snorkel, well i was cos ames decided she´d rather hang out with the fogies! They insisted on giving me the smallest wet suit in the world ever, so small our guide had to blow air into the suit so i could do it up! we dived in the water and it was freezing, tho not as cold as the rio trancura in pucon!!! To be honest there wasnt a lot to see, after seeing the barrier reef in belize not alot could beat it! There were a couple of cool bits tho, the way the sunlight hit the mussels on the rocks made all the purples in them glisten which was cool, and at one point we swam through some rocks..... me mortally wounding myself on the barnicles in the process...... we got out and it was time to return to the boat, i learned then that amy had slipped on the rocks and hurt her leg, at first i showed concern until i learnt she did it trying to take amusing pictures of me!!!! Back on the shore we learned that the lunch stop we´d been told about was a snatch and go kinda break, so we hit the local shop and got my fav..... cookies!! Then we were off to see more seals, got to the spot we were stopping and to our delight there were several armodillos running around the car park, something we didnt expect to see at all! the beach was kinda cool, we were looking down on several hundred sea lions.... each male with there bitches all around them, the lucky ones had several and the ugly ones not even a single women to satisfy his needs... no wonder they were angry. unfortunately we were a little early in the season to see the orcas come to grab all the tiny turds (pups) off the beach!!! We´d seen enough so headed to the cafe to grab a sarnie..... obviously cheese and ham... this is argentina after all! We thought we´d take them with us and stood by the van eating, the armodillos seeing us with food kept running up to us begging but we didnt give in.... some of the tourists couldnt resist tho and ended up feeding these ones.... i had to try and get a pic and got a couple of crackers of one on its hind legs!! Then it was off to find Pingu.... who once again wasnt frolicing in the snow but rather stupidly standing on the cliff tops taking the full brunt of the wind. The end of the trip was to see the lazy elephant seals on the beach..... They truelly must be the laziest mammals of all, i mean we literally watched one for nearly an hour and it didnt even make it from the shore to the beach!! That was it for the tour so we decided it was time for a gud dinner.... and sadly a break in my steak diet! Tho it was worth it..... we did have to wait for the restaurant to open so we hung out in the iguana cafe and had a bottle of iguana beer..... which was minging!!! However the meal to come was significantly better! I´d seen this fish place and kinda fancied it despite my deggggggsire (bloody english bastards) to eat steak every night. Turned out to be amazing.... we both had cod which was extremely gud, ames even had honey sauce, i swear she´ll eat anything these days........ washed it all down with a cheap bottle of white.... we decided we´d been spending way to much! The folowing day we had planned to spend the day shopping whilst waiting for our evening bus. However we´d forgotten to account for the fact it was sunday and everything was closed.... even the internet cafes were shut so we couldnt even use are best way of time wasting......... Tho after having the only thing left on the menu at la barra.... we managed to find one.... it was dead dodgy and underground.... didnt even work that well but me and ames managed eventually to play poker over msn to pass the time. Thats how sad we have become!!! The bus journey to BA turned out to be ok tho the food was rubbish (i´m getting fussy in my old age) Was kinda amusing tho cos the conductor was a nut case. Firstly he started the trip by playing Bingo.... and everyone had to play.... gud job we knew are numbers pretty well now, however we didnt win and i didnt get the bottle of vino as the prize. secondly cos he insisted on sweeping the bus everytime someone got outta they seat.... i mean literally for 20 whole hours he was sweeping...mental or wot!!! Anyway enough of that...... i´ll let ames tell u about gud old BA!!!!!!!
