Potosi, Potosi! I would love to say its nice....but then to lie would be pretty stupid!! Coming here hasnt changed our perceptions of Bolivia at all....we just dont like the place...and dont understand those that do....oh well each to their own i guess!
We arrived at 5:30!! What a stupid time to arrive....but so it seems did every other bus in Bolivia. There were a stupid amount of buses and people around at that time of the morning! (not quite as insane as the people selling food and stuff at the roadside when we stopped earlier in the journey at 2am!). We got the dodgiest looking taxi in the world ever and wound our way up the narrow streets to our hostel.....praying they had rooms! It was a stupid time of day, but clearly they were used to it...and we got a dorm room no probs....for some reason we never asked how much it was....still dont know!! We were too tired and so both collapsed in bed for a few hours!!
Then we headed out to find breakfast, nothing looked open, despite it now being like 9am. We eventually found somewhere....very grotty but stupidly cheap and not at all bad! Then we wandered, at first glance the place didnt seem to bad, but certainly nothing special. A Colonial town that needs attention, a reasonably pleasant square and none of the crazyness of La Paz, but when it came to finding lunch, we couldnt find anywhere. Dodgy, dark, dingy local places, but nothing else. Very disappointing. We managed to book a bus out of here...nothing to stay for......unless you want to go down a dangerous working mine...where the people who work there live about 10 years! We found a small restauarant next door, the only gringo hangout in town it seems, and had llama burgers....okay but not the best, then headed for another wander.....getting lost!! Still what else was there to do! Spent the rest of the day chilling....bring on Chillie and Argentina....we need something new!!
Like to add that we went out to dinner that night at one of the better loking places.....but again were disappointed! The menu looked great....very classy....but was really just typical andean fare! We both had steaks....which were huge....but mine was very rare...and the rice and chips...were very bland...still it was food...and it was cheap! Did find a funky bar to drink wine in which was a cool way to end the day! The next day we had had enough of Potosi, but the buses didnt leave for Uyuni till midday, so we had a whole morning to waste! It was raining, so we spent it having a late breakfast...and researching how the hell to get to Chile, Argentina and Brazil in time for canival!! Then headed off in the rain to find the bus station.....by that i mean dodgy office in the middle of nowhere....to get our bus.....which ended up being late...but thats another story!
