We arrived in Nazca with absolutely no idea wot we were gonna do, all we knew was we had to find a hotel, book some flights and get out by the following evening in order to guarentee we got to Cusco for Christmas.
As promised by everyone we´d spoken to Nazca was yet another shithole!!! We were met at the exit to the bus station by a near riotous bunch of people desperate for us to stay in there shitty lodges..... It was completely crazy, we had a rough idea the posh hotel across the road had some dodgy backpacker lodges so headed straight there, mainly to escape the hoards. We were promised rooms at 30 soles which seemed reasonable but couldnt quite believe we´d get them in a place where the normal room price was 55 bucks. When we got there the security took us at a run through the hotel and out into the carpack where there were some minging but sufficient rooms. We didnt understand the rushing around, even when we got to the desk to complete the paperwork it was a case of bare minimum and pay later!!
Now we were all set to see the Nazca lines and get out of town we could relax and wot better way to relax than to head to the nearest restaurent and have a few beers! We found a cool little tourist restaurant where we had pasta for dinner before retiring for the night. We were up early the following day and decided on just coffee for breakfast as we´d been warned the flights were somewhat unconvential. Unfortunately we were just backpackers so we had to wait till all the ´normal´guests had ordered to order and then once again wait for the ´normal´guests before we were served our coffee. Consequently we had to gulp down our coffees at roughly the same rate the Panama Canal drains water in order to get out without missing our bus. It wasnt far to the airport and we were straight on the plane, alot earlier than we anticipated
plane got a perfect view of the lines. It was back and forth and the plane turned numerous times so we could see each of the remaining 11 figures. They were incredible. After half an hour it was all over and back to the airport where we watched a short film about the lines.
Back in Nazca we had time to kill before are evening flight so we had lunch, i had a beautiful goat stew and ames had a creamy chilli curry. After that we wandered the town and chilled till evening.

a. Our plane and pilot
! We went next door where we very easily managed to book flights over the lines at slightly less than we expected, just 40 dollars. When we got back to the hotel we figured it out, the footie was on and it was the penultimate game of the season so was huge, all the hotel staff were gathered around the tele. We went back across the road to the bus station where we booked our bus to Cusco.....was so expensive, more than our bus journeys in the US but we had to get there so had no choice. Its always worrying when you have those crazy moments when 100pounds goes through your pocket in less than five minutes, fortunately it doesnt happen often! b. Nazca geometric shapes
. Me and ames were sat in the back of the six seater plane. It was only a short flight to where the lines were, first of all all we could see were cool geometric shapes etched into the desert but after a while the pilot started doing crazy manoeuvres, first going one way and then the next ensuring that both sides of the plane got a perfect view of the lines. It was back and forth and the plane turned numerous times so we could see each of the remaining 11 figures. They were incredible. After half an hour it was all over and back to the airport where we watched a short film about the lines.
