We awoke much earlier than hoped and managed to get out the hotel easily, the guy the night before was just being an arse to be funny. Flagged down a radio taxi who gave us a dodgy deal between jobs. At the bus terminal everything was just opening up and we spied more gringos who were getting our bus. The bus was nice enough, not too expensive either. The bus journey started off much as previous ones, by now we wee bored of winding mountain roads, they`d lost there appeal after u realise it takes a week to go a few miles!!!!! It did got more interesting after a while as we got further south, the landscape stayed much the same but it dried up, the trees disappeared and there were numerous fires in the hills. We finally hit the border town where we stopped for an age so the driver could get his dinner. Unfortunately we had used all our change and didnt wanna break more notes as were leaving the country so had to stand around in the heat and wait. When he finished we headed to the border post where it took an age of beaurochracy to get us out of ecuador and into peru.....our most cock-eyed border crossing yet
The following day we lazed in bed till late and then went to find coffee. Was only one place open and the coffee was dead weird.....it was a do it yourself coffee where the coffee came in a wee pot, the milk in another and the water in a large pot. Tasted gross and we wished we hadnt bothered. Spent the rest of the morning sorting tours and stuff in Peru on the net before returning to the place we had breakfast. We had the most amazing tasting hamburger there before getting our stuff and catching our bus outta there!!!!
a. the changing landscape
! Loads of paperwork to be done in huge books, lots of stamps and little bits of paper for goodness knows wot reason........even had to see the peruvian police!!! Didnt have to pay any bribes but personally its worth the few bucks to get the job done quickly! Once through we hit a nice flat road.......even had a movie.......in spanish that amy had to explain to me cos im rubbish!!! Once it was over i fell asleep until we hit the shabby outskirts of Piura. The houses were constructed with bamboo poles and reed matting. Very basic and to be honest we hadnt see those kinda shacks for a while. It was very messy with rubbish everywhere. We were gonna miss the tidiness of Ecudaor. The bus station was right in the heart of the shambles but fortunately there were taxis in the bus station. The guy took us to where we wanted and asked us if we wanted him to wait. We declined as never had a problem before. At first we couldnt find the place as we walked straight past it. Was very sanitised....like a hospital, we waited in the lobby for ages but noone came so we decided to look elsewhere. Went to another hostal....was weird, the bed wasnt even made in the room, but hey it was only for one night and it was dead cheap. Next thing on the agenda was food, so we got some Soles and went to the first place we came to.....a pizza joint overlooking the main street. Was very nice and then we headed off to book our way out of town. Could only get one bus and would have to wait around in the shitty town till 1.30 the folowing day!!
b. Forest Fire
! There was nothing left to do but just chill!!! So we read in the hostal until dinner time, where we shared a chinese. Was yummy but we looked out of place, a cos we were gringos and b cos we were drinking beer not the famed peruvian inca kola. Returned home where i had to fight the biggest cockroach in the world for bathroom room. After that I dubbed the hostal ´Hostal Cockroach´The following day we lazed in bed till late and then went to find coffee.
