Had breakfast in the Happy Fish again...were enjoying it when we got mobbed by some huge tour group!!! Made a quick get away....spent some time on the net...and then headed down to the water for our pick up.
Our pick up was waiting, and turned out to be the guy we had seen enjoying the good coffee at happy fish earlier. Waited a while Chris, the british guy who owns the place did his shopping...and then we were off.
Was a lovely boat ride....along the river, with its high canyon walls....very pretty, then we turned off the main Rio Dulce river....to a smaller river the Rio Lampara. All the way along the river, where little houses and even a restaurant and shop. We pulled in at Hotelito Perdido....and were given the guided tour. The place is amazing. Several really cute hand built bungalows with palm tree roofs....right in the jungle. The main building was really cool too...with amazing furniture...and hammocks. We chose our bungalow...was cool, with a cute loft bed and sofa downstairs. Dumped our stuff and headed for a cool soda and a chill out....not that we had done anything that day but hey thats why we were here....to chill out!Met the two resident puppies....which are really cute. Watched them chase each other round the garden and in and out of the swamp. Also got to meet the two cats too!
We were the only guests...the place having only been open for a month...which was really cool, and oh so peaceful....the only noise being the crickets!
Neil decided to go for a swim, i couldn`t be arsed, but went to watch him! After his swim we sat on the jetty for ages, watching the locals paddling up and down the river in the wooden canoes...or cayuco as they called. They were all so friendly, saying hi to us as they passed. Were amazed at their skill...the boats are very wobbly but yet they managed to be able to stand up in them and fish with huge nets. Saw some cool wildlife too...huge lizards....monstrous bright blue butterflies....a snake and loads of fish. It was so beautiful...and so peaceful. The only sound the lapping water and insects. way cool.
Went to lie in the hammocks and enjoy a beer. Chris came out to light the barbecue for tea, but it started to rain...so instead joined us for a beer and a chat!
Then as it had gone dark, we went to join Chris and Aska in their house for the evening. They are still starting out so are kinda in limbo at the moment as to where to hang out...most of their furnitue is in the hotel hang out....but its still a bit quiet to be up in the jungle!!!! Was nice to see their place, which is right on the river...and we were made to feel so welcome. We were treated to the most amazing home cooked roast dinner! Roast chicken, roast veggies and home baked bread. Was damn good. Then spent the rest of the evening drinking beer and discussing the delights of english beer and food with Chris...not sure Aska was getting the conversation much and ended up going to bed!!!! We followed not much later....
I was a little freaked out to be going to be in the middle of the jungle! We had our first experience of sleeping in a mozzie net...but i can`t say i slept well was too worried about seeing one of the huge spiders, chris had assured us we would see!!!!!!

Got up, having survived the night without being eaten by any scary bugs. Headed to the hang out...and chilled for a while...then went to find breakfast down at the house.
Opted for a light breakfast, so could manage lunch too....food is too good not to eat!
Had yummy home made bread and jam and good coffee. Then sat talking again on their patio. Were supposed to be going out in a cayuco but were too lazy to get up and get ready. Aska offered us some fruit....thought it was a great idea....till a huge spider came crawling out from under the fruit bowl. A brown wolf spider to be exact! Feaked me out, but i didn`t scream or anything. Didin`t eat me either, but was huge and hairy!
Decided it was time to go do some paddling....got a swimming stuff on, cause we had been assured we would fall in! The boat was cool, like a hollowed out log. Very wobbly, managed to get in without falling in! And we were off. We were completely useless at paddling at first! Chris had told us to stay near the edge...but somehow we seemed unable to go where we wanted! A huge motor boat passed, we were convinced we were going overboard, but we managed to stay upright....paddled a little upstream...got into more of a rhythm....it was hot and we felt like cooling off...and really didn´t famcy our chance of being able to get back in the boat from the water, so headed back to the jetty, were we went for a swim! Refreshed we headed out again....much better this time...we seemed to have it sussed. This time got chance to enjoy our beautuful surroundings...the jungle...and all the little houses along the river. Passed loads of locals on their boats...they seemed to be a little better at it than us!!!!!! Saw heaps of birds....it was all so pretty and peaceful....must be such a nice simple life....the only mode of transport being boats...no noise...no pollution...no hustle and bustle...headed back completely chilled and happy!
had the most amazing lunch....home baked bread, baked with egg and cheese and tomatoe inside. Was amazing....thanks Aska...oh and Jamie Oliver apparantly! Saw loads of crabs! Didn`t expect to see crabs, but apparantly they are river crabs, they were cute!!!!
Spent the rest of the afternoon chilling...reading books...lying in the hammock and drinking beer! Was way cool. Gave up trying to sleep in the hammock at dusk...the bugs were too noisy! Instead played a few games of cards, then Aska came and asked us to join them for more amazing food!
Spent another great evening eating yummy burritos and drinking more beer, and enjoying more great conversation. Its just so chilled its scary! Then went to bed with the cockroaches and ants!!! Hey its the jungle.....the home of the bugs and anyway, we were all tucked up in our little mossie net!!!!!
