Oh my god!!!!
Entry 55 of 119 | show all | print this entry |
Now we thought we had left tackville....but oh were we wrong!!!!!! We drove out of the park, left gatlinburg behind us, then hit Pigeon Forge - oh my god!!!
We had found Blackpool deep in the heart of the US, and im not kidding!!!! It was one long street lined with tat...huge neon tat....in ya face tourist and oh so expensive tat. Amusement parks, the most elaborate crazy golf ever, go-carts, huge shiny hotels, fast food, theatres with cheese showing all day every day...oh and elvis (gotta have elvis) and it went on forever and ever and ever and ever! We now know where all the people stay when they go to the national park....think they are missing the point just a little?? Forgot to mention that just round the corner from all this blackpoolnees was Dollywood! Couldn´t bring oursleves to go there....but ill let you use your imaginations as to what it might have looked like!
Finally escaped the tat and drove on to Nashville. Didn´quite make it though....amd we had to find somewhere to stay, decided on a KOA campsite, but when we got there it had gone...vanished into thin air....oh dear! We were stuck in the middle of nowhere...and i mean nowhere with no bed. Our last resort was to try the very dodgy looking RV site nearby...turned out they had tent spaces....did look wierd but hey beggars can{t be choosers! Put up tent....and started to make our food, only to have a slight mishap and end up with all our spuds in a big heap on the ground....rather than waste good food, we picked them up, washed them and carried on. Turned out to be very flavoursome! Then as it was dark and we didn´t know what to do, Neil decided we should go for a drive in the dark to find a dodgy little shop in Clinton, where they had an ATM, cause apparantly we needed money. Drove down a few random streets in the pitch black, got lost a few times, then eventually found the shop-come-restaurant-come-local-hangout, and Neil deiced we actually didn´t need money as he was too scared to go in. Downtown Clinton looked such a happenin place! Headed back and went to bed in our little tent, somewhere in the middle of Tennesse!
