Today was our day to explore Atlanta. Unfortunately Amy woke up feeling really unwell so we planned not to intensive day. Just to see the centennial park where the bomb went off in the 1996 olympics and to visit the Martin Luther King Jr historic park. We had a car now so we were free to go anywhere. We investigated Waffle house for brekkie..... Amy had more grits - shes obsessed and i had a waffle... mmmm yummy! Centennial park was kinda cool. Very modern with wide brick paths and nice lawns, as well as many monuments and memorials to the olympic movement, the bomb and those who achieved in the olympics.
After that we went to the MLK site, Parked really dodgy and went inside. was a really cool museum with loads to read and videos of the highlights of MLKs life. Id known the guy had implied hed know when hed die but didnt know hed even writtrn his eulogy. We then checked out his grave and the church his father had been minister in and where hed grown up.
We then had a drive around downtown Atlanta. Were loads of green spaces and nice water features and monuments. We couldnt help notice the multicultural society, we hadnt seen it as much as wed expected elsewhere in the states.
We went back to Paul and Elizabeths to chill out as they were taking us out in the evening. They took us to a lovely little thai place just off the highway. We were treated to soft crab sushi, pad thai and curry and amazing thai soup. Was a fun meal and we appreciated it very much. Jillian was cute too and after her food entertained the table next door with which ahe was fascinated.
After that we checked out the late night book store for a book we needed, unfortunately they didnt have it but we ordered it for the following week. We then returned home for drinks and bed as we were due to hit the road in our Chevy Cobalt the following morning.
