Wayhey, i like beaches i do!!!

Today we set off for the beach, with Elizabeth and little Jillian. The journey took about 6 hours and was pretty uneventful, except for our stop at Subway and the fact that i got the cool job of entertaining Jillian! She is soo cute!

We arrived around tea time, were welcomed by Elizabeths mum and dad, Carolyn and Bobby and there two dogs, then went for a walk along the lovely beach. Edisto beach is lovely, completely untouched, with pretty little beach houses all on stilts and the beach full of amazing shells. Took a trip to the one and only grocery store - piggly wiggly to stock up on essentials, ie beer and biscuits!

Then we were in for a real treat. Friends of Carolyn and Bobby had caught an amzing number of crabs that day - 44 in total! They had made crab cakes with them, and our supper that night was a feast of crab cakes (virually pure crab) and boiled shrimp (huge shrimp) and sweet onion pie, with beans and salad! MMM delicious and we even got to munch on huge piles of crab claws as a starter. Was amazing. Thanks Carolyn and Bobby and your great fisherman friends for an amazing meal.

We then spent the rest of the evening drinking beer, chatting to everyone and watching the big american football game on TV. Southern hospitality is amzing!

Day 2

Spent the day in pretty little Charleston! (after our amzing breakfast of shrimp and grits! - grits in case you are wonderng are a porridge like thing made with corn and a breakfast delicacy of the south - and i have to point out that after trying many more grits, carolyns were the best by far) Elizabeth was kind enough (and mad enough!) to lend Neil her SUV so we could go exploring.

Charleston was an amzing little place, full of beautiful colonnial houses and a colourful market. We were naughty and enjoyed a huge plate of spicy wings for lunch, oh and a beer of course. The wings were amazing, the biggest i've ever seen, and oh so tasty.

Then went off to explore the water front, with its even bigger houses and cool park full of cannons. It saw many a civil war battle in its time. Neil had fun bird-watching!! Yes bird=watching you heard me right, there were some seriously cool birds though, including a fat fluffy thing, and cute little yellow ones! Had a really chilled day, Neil didn't make me walk miles and miles and he even let me rest reguarly!

We needed a drink, so went for an ice cream!!!!! We were looking for somwhere for a drink, as it was hot and sunny, but when we spotted Maggie Moos, and ice cream parlor, we couldn't resist!!! Can you blame us? Had an amzing hand mixed cheescake icecream, with fresh strawberries and raspberries, neil had some over-indulgent strwberries thing with cookies, fudge, strwberries and free raspberries (casue the guy put them in by accident!)

Then we chilled by the rectangulat colonial pond watching the flying fish!

Back at Edisto beach, we were treated to another fantastic supper of shrimp creole!! Its lovely to be spoilt and get all these fab opportunities. Elizabeths friend came over and we spent man hours discussing the rights and wrongs of USA over a few glasses of wine! Unfortunately Elizabeth had to go to bed early as Jillian wasn't feeling too good!

Day 3

Spent a day chilling and playing about on the beach. It was sooooo nice to not have anywhere to go or anything we had to do or see!

Went down ther beach mid-morning after we finally got up and headed to the beach. Neil played in the sea as he likes to do, like a big kid! Have to admit it was funny when he beached himself on the shore and let the waves wash over him! He did end up with shorts full of sand though!!! I joined him for a while as well as reading my book and catching up with my diary which was weeks behind! We played a little frisbee while we dryed off - it was another lovely day. We then showered and walked down to subway for lunch.

Had to go back and then get the car to get more beer cos i forgot the passports (you can't buy beer out here without id, no matter how old you are!)

Sat and chilled in the shade of the house, in the swing and hammock with a few beers for the rest of the afternoon. Neil did a spot of shoe cleaning and sewing!

In the evening we were treated to another feast of spaghetti bolognaise, and lovely bread curtesy of another of Elizabeths friends who had come to visit. Jillian was feeling much better, thank goodness, so everyone was able to enjoy an evening chatting. Everyone is so friendly and we got many a tip on travelling in south america from Elizabeth and her friend.

Day 4

Today we had to leave - boo hoo! I was sad to say goodbye, but made sure we enjoyed our last morning playing frisbee and messing about on the beach before we left. Even got to chill in the hammock for a while! Had left over shrimp creole for lunch, then said our goodbyes. Thanks Carolyn and Bobby for your hospitality we had an amazing time.

The drive back seemed long and tiring. Neither me or Jillian were feelng well, both full of colds - not sure who the culprit was! Neil helped with the drining, and eventually we got home safe and well. Rufus and Ellie were home to great us (they are soo soft - and thats from me who doesn't even like dogs!), and Paul had cooked us lovely lasagne for tea!

Had fn chats, then Paul and Elizabeth headed off to bed and we messed on the internet for hours - got to keep you folks entertaned right?
