Road Trip - A wet night camping!!!

We awoke early, packed up and headed into downtown penticton, was clearly quite a hip place, small but with a few cool looking bars and clubs.... not surprising given it was the setting for the annual ironman comp, due to take place the following week.

After having a leisurely look around we headed off. We drove up through the Okanagen valley, stopping off at a couple of the fruit markets the valley is famous for. We brought corn on the cob and some peaches for our lunch and followed Lake Okanagen up through the valley, the road was lined with vineyards and orchards full of every kind of fruit imaginable. As we drove up we popped into a couple of towns, Summerland was a quiet little village just off the road. We passed through the amusing named Peachland before hitting the big city of Kelowna..... very small compared to wot we were used to but a city none the less. The going was quite slow so at the top of the valley in a place called Vernon we hit the Trans Canada highway again..... Turned out to be an awful road, one lane each way with the poorest surface ever!!! Were getting hungrey at this point so stopped just outside Mt Revelstoke NP in the mountains for a picnic. Smoked Salmon pate sarnies, corn, a peach and coffee by the roadside. Was good to be truely out there....... After lunch which was extremely late we drove through the mountains to Golden, a strange place indeed. We had coffee just of the highway before following the signs to get to the municipal campsite based there. After requesting our firewood and pitching the tent we set out to explore the town. Only we couldnt find it, we found the services, the strangest town hall ever - a shed!!!!! a grocery store, a liquer store, a cinema even but given this was suppoded to be not far from a ski resort just off the rockies not at all wot was expected!!!! We cooked our tea and cracked open the beers. As we finally got our fire lit and sat down to enjoy our mash and chilli the heavens opened. Not the evening we had planned, ended up playing shithead in the car watching the fire blaze in the distance.....
