So after brekkie we amy caught up on our mail whilst i trekked downtown to book our tickets to get to seattle on friday, After that we went down to kinkos where after feeling somewhat confused we managed to get our pics put on disc and then spent a couple of hours uploading pics. The guy working in there must have liked us as he kept giving us extra credit so we only spent $10 dollors and must have had nearly $30 dollars of time.
After discovering our trip didnt leave as early as we thought we sat down for our free pesto pasta courtesy of the hostel, mmm yummy but i sure do miss meat!!
We walked down to the bus station and met up with our bus and drivers - it was all very weird a different bus and different people, set up so similarly but so organised and regimented, was missing jimmy and his ways already!!!!!
Well we set off only to stop an hour down the road in dublin, hey its fun to stop in dublin but why the hell are we being given an hour to do a wee!!!! Well after a very long wee and a bit of choccy shopping we got back to the bus. Me being naughty opened the bus so everyone got on.... However when are drivers returned we were ousted so they could perform the miracle, its so freaky..... Tortoise school must be so tedious!!!
Anyway we settled down to go to bed at the front of the bus as we werent ready to go to sleep straight away, played cards for about an hour before sleeping!!
Day 1 Yosemite National Park
We awoke early in the base of the park for brekkie of smoked salmon and bagels.... i wish i had this everyday!!! After which we headed into th e park where we were told we had the whole day to ourselves.... pretty cool and just what we needed as the tortoise was just too much for us to handle.
We decided that we'd try and see Vernal Falls, and then come back and check out Yosemete Falls, a couple of small hikes that allowed us time for lunch in the middle
So we headed out to the first wee hike, only thing is amy forgets waterfalls are uphill and as much as she loves waterfalls she hates hills - if only gravity worked differently i wouldnt get so much earache!!!! Boy does she get in a strop if the eeniest hill occurs..... But it was an amazing fall and even she admitted it eventually.... like a giant sheet of water flowing right over the rocks creating extreme amounts of mist, the people coming down from the top were soaked.... We descended going past all the beautiful views of distant waterfalls and all the birds and squirrels running all over the place.....
After that we got the bus back to the visitor center where it told you about how all the strange formations occurred and all the wildlife we didnt see. Found out there was a cool little indian village minus the indians of course (thanks to all those cowboys!!!) tho it was pretty amazing to see and the larger building was still used by the local tribal people for special ceromonial use. Was interesting to find a bit more out about the natives tho and also the fact that they were obssessed by acorns... but only the black ones which they mushed up and used for everything!!!!!
We then went for the other hike where we stopped of on the way to have my minging sarnies
Once we'd been picked up we had a scenic drive ascending to 9945ft with amazing views of the valley and the surrounding snow capped mountains, and beautiful lush meadows...... tho after a while we were wondering where the hell we were going as we were about 30 miles out of the park! Finally pulled up at a campsite - completely in the middle of nowhere - well i guess it must have been somewhere - but i sure aint got a clue where it was!!!!!! Turns out the tortoise was banned from the millions of other campsite for extreme occurances of nudity and drinking.......
Was so annoying tho having done a tour previously as it was all so formal!!!! We were scared to do anything but hey the food was worth the wait..... Veggie stew and mash eaten sittin round a hugh roaring campfire.... oh not forgettin the bottle of red as well.....Yummy!!!!
Day 31 - believe it or not the first month is over Boo Hoo!!!!!
This was to be a lazy day, mainly cos we were miles from anywhere but hey it was cool.....
Started of at Mono Lake, a beautiful salt lake which was partial drained for the good old people of LA, meaning that there were amazing salt tufas on the edges.... some people swam and had cool bus showers after but the flies were everyway so we gave it a miss and went for a wee stroll instead.
Lunch was spent in Mammoth Lake, a ski resort which as you can imagine in summer was far from busy.... were dieing for real food so headed straight to Carl Jr for burgers and fries..... turned out they were enormous and well worth our well borrowed bucks!!!!!! I love retirement.
Then off to June Lake which was a cool mountain lake, was shocked to find out we had four hours they but hey I can do relaxed...... really?????? The water was kinda cold but was so refreshing, after a couple of hours tho i was bored so we did my fav thing ever - went for ice cream or in my case 2 ice creams!!!
In the evening we had risotto but as it took ages to make we had veggie tempura first.... which i made and for the second time wrecked my trousers... this time with boiling oil.... Was scrummy tho and the risotto was pretty good except very sameie as risotto is!!!!!
Packed up once again.... had mexi eggs for brekkie and the headed up to the tulamone meadows or wotever they call them.... Went for a cool hike up one of the half domes.... tho it was up so i got more earache...... This time tho she behaved like a 2 yr old and stompped her feet and refused for ages to walk more....The scramble to the top was cool and the views were amazing...
Then headed to another lake for more fun and frolics on the beach...... before going to find some trees, not hard in a forest you would think but we were looking for the elusive Giant Sequeois....... A mile walk downhill to see one.... it was pretty cool to see i thought but amy went wow.... a tree!! she wasnt impressed but it was a long way back up and yes you guessed it more earache, even more so when she discovered evryone else had seen a bear, but hey we saw a ginga woodpecker!!!!!!!
We then had dinner in a carpark in a yahoo town and more brown bagged beer. This time we actually saw some yahoos tho!!! Went to the oldest bar in cali after pasta which was way cool... the bar had swing doors like an old saloon and the ceiling was covered in dollar bills thrown up by willing punters, amy was finger dancing whilst i was clown dancing which was so much more fun... We danced till 1 am before boarding the bus for a night drive home......
