The Real San Diego!

Day 4
I agree San Diego is great, but I'm sure you would all like to know a little bit about why, right?
Left early, and took the long bus journey into Downtown to find the Greyhound station. Our first trip on the allegedly 'scary' greyhound! Bus wasn't busy, so Neil decided we should pick the best seats on the bus, right next to the toilet! Fortunately, it was a short trip, so no-one did any big stinky poos! Past great scenery, and huge roads and cars. Clearly anything goes in USA, as we saw a woman sat with her feet out of the window on the middle of the freeway!! Arrived completely unscathed, even Neil's rucksack made it in one piece!
Hostel is cool. In a great area full of funky bars and places to eat. It is much more hippy-like, with an instantly fun atmosphere! Much more what us groovy travellers need.
Went for a wander. Sam Diego is not at all like we expected! It is all immaculate, and looks like it has just been built (relatively speaking i guess it has!). All the buildings were cool, specially the huge, funky and very posh hotels on the front, the Manchester Grand Hyatt being by far the coolest. They had one of those seriously cool fountains, which randomly send up jets of water and you can play in!! Wandered round a cute little seaside village, full of fascinating little shops. They were packed to the roof with stuff, the best one being the Indian one. Again it was the scarily perfectness of it that made it really cool.
Found a bar back near the hostel. We have discovered the key to drinking in America. Found out when Happy Hour is!!!!! We enjoyed 2 leisurely pints each, while still trying to suss the Baseball, at only $2 a pint!!!! We love it. Decided we were hungry, so decided to sod it and eat where we where! Had a yummy burger. Our first of many i'm sure. Was a proper burger, with stacks of chips and a pickled gherkin - which Neil thought was the best bit!!!!!!!! He says it was actually pooey! We did have to wait ages for them to serve us though. Not sure why, probably because we didn't tip the bar-tender!!!
Back at the hostel it was film night. No-one seemed to want to watch a film, and when it eventually went on, everyone pretty much left!! We watched Kill Bill, but fraid i didn't;t get it, and so gave up and went to bed. They gave us free popcorn, which was nice, except i nearly choked on it!
You know what? We like San Diego!!!
Day 5
After our free pancake breakfast in the Hostel, we decided today was Beach Day! We needed a nice day on the beach, getting a tan. Had heard it was quite a long way to the beach so got a bus/tram ticket. It was a long way, no way we could have walked, mad as we clearly are! Found a beach, looked as good as any! Picked our spot on Mission Beach, and got to wear my bikini for the first time! Did a spot of sun bathing and took it in turns to have fun in the sea! Ocean seemed cold at first, but soon got used to it. Neil liked the big waves! Walked for miles along the beach to dry off, to the next beach. The sand began to get toooo hot, so we had to make a run for the sidewalk! Enjoyed a huge a bottle of water on the promenade and watched the people going passed. Most of them are more crazy than us. There were loads of cyclists, many with well weird bikes and even stereos on the back of their bikes. There were joggers of all kinds, many very tanned and with huge muscles and skimpy clothes. The best one was the old guy on blades, who was skating along in slow motion! Seemed like a long walk back to find the bus. The sun was pretty damn hot. Popped in Subway for a drink, where we couldn't help but laugh, cause they had no bread! A sandwich shop without bread!!!!!!!! Sat at a random bus stop, waiting for a bus to hopefully take us back!? Very hot. Oh look Amy is a wee-tard. Suddenly discovered that not only had i burnt quite badly, on my legs which NEVER do anything, but that i must have put my hands on my legs just after using the suntan lotion, so had great big white handprints on my legs. I was mortified! Neil thought it was hilarious! Just wanted to get back and hide!!!! Really didn't realise how hot it was, and yes we had been wearing cream, just forgot to reapply it! Oh well, you live you learn - our current favourite motto! Neil burnt his 'ed too, as he put it!
Back at Old town where we got the bus from, we decided to explore and were glad we did, even though we figured we had had too much sun by this point. We found a cool old village, like a museum, eg Ironbridge Bliss Hill, except it was free! Completely free. Cool eh, we love free stuff! Learned loads about the history of the area, the area was claimed by the Spanish originally, hence the Spanish/Mexican influences. There were loads of cool buildings to go in, telling you about their history, it did make us laugh quite hysterically when they claimed how old the buildings were, which were actually no older than our house in Coventry, and as Neil likes to claim about as old as his smelly socks he has been wearing since we arrived! Loads of cool shops, could have bought loads, but we being good, so just bought some corn nuts, which sounded fun for $1! Was far too hot, we were on fire (both from the nuts and the sun!) so headed back.
Tried to cook for tea, but again found it difficult. Had a tin of minging chilli and come corn tortillas, which Neil hated. He enjoyed the salad more, and thats green stuff. Tomatoes are very yummy here though it has to be said. Chilled in lounge with fellow travellers, with a few tinnies. Then played 'Shithead', i lost 6 million times, and Neil claimed i was so shitty i was a stinky dunghead! (Please excuse my language, but it is the name of the game and not just me taking any opportunity to swear!)
so why was San Diego so great? Great hostel for a start and err...well its just cool and we liked it! What more do we need to say!?
Fact is...... San Diego is great!!!! Just accept it and lets move on and talk about the ming that is ming??????

If they can't organize food at takeaways best get Rick and Dad to come over with the caterin van! Also whats so special about a water fountain where you can play. There's one on Preston market square now right outside where Dad and Rick have van. It's like a maze and you have to guess where the jets of water are going to come up next! Who needs San Diego, I don't think. At present we've even ... show all
