When we woke up this morning the storm seemed to have passed through, although it was still windy and quite cloudy. So following a sumptuous breakfast of scrambled eggs on toast, we set out for a walk along 4 mile beach to see what the rough sea had left on the beach. Well the beautiful sandy beach was now littered with enough seaweed and driftwood to build a small mountain!! Still we picked our way through it and enjoyed a lovely three hour walk, punctuated by a couple of dashes for cover as the rain briefly returned. The Aussies seem to love their warning signs and we have seen a few really good ones, including "WRONG WAY, TURN BACK" on a dual carriageway, but the front half of a three foot long fish laying on the beach was the best warning of sharks that I have seen!!!!

When we returned to our apartment it was very apparent that despite the overcast skies we should have used sun screen as one of us had definite bikini lines, luckily it was Judi and not me and even more luckily she wasn't sore, my life would then have been a misery.

Regular readers may remember Lloyd, our tree obsessed guide to the rainforest, well one of his other obsessions was food and he had recommended a place called The Tin Hut to eat. We have been there before with Ian before he left, but we decided to return as Judi wanted to try the very large bowl of prawns. We were sitting there quietly. people watching like you do, when one of the waitresses came over and asked if we wanted to buy some tickets for the Friday night raffle, evidently if your number is drawn out you then have to spin a large wheel with prizes written on it and whichever prize is at the top when the wheel stops is what you win, top prize $200!! So we invested $5 and sat back to wait for the excitement!!!

One of the first winners was a thin elderly guy, very brown skinned, both knees bandaged and rather the worse for wear. He didn’t have a clue  what was going on, but as he returned to his table with his $10 prize he stopped at our table and said to my still glowing (alright red) wife that she should rub tomato on her sunburn to take away the soreness. Although Judi does go quite red in the sun it is very rarely sore, so we thanked him politely and said we would try it when we got back to our apartment. A few minutes later he returned with a plastic dish of tomato sauce (which Judi cannot bare to touch) and a serviette and insisted she should rub the stuff all over her arms and possibly elsewhere, I was laughing too much to hear the detail!!! When she appeared to be reluctant to spread tomato ketchup all over her body in the middle of a restaurant he assured her that it would be ok and that he knew what he was talking about because he was a) a diver, b) a dive master, c) a demolition diver, d) a rescue diver and just to reinforce the point e) in the SAS!!!! In the face of the these overwhelming odds Judi spread ketchup all up one arm!!!

Now I’m not sure where this was going to lead to, maybe a spot on Australia’s got Talent but we were saved by the raffle, one of our numbers came up and Judi went up to spin the wheel, what would she win... $200 even a $50 would be good. Now you’re all hoping she won a crate of ketchup aren’t you. Well she didn’t, she won  a $30 meat voucher from the local butcher ....which as we fly to Ayres Rock tomorrow is about as much use as a crate of ketchup!!!

Fortunately they swapped the voucher for a bottle of red, cheers everybody.
