Cheerio! I made it!!! Here are some pictures of the bus ticket terminal, some SSO participants I met on the bus to Oxford, my roomies, and our house and neighborhood. My first meal in England was a Chicken and Mushroom Pie with mash (mashed potatoes), vegetables, and Earl Grey at none other than the Eagle and Child pub (C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkein's old haunt). It was very good - I couldn't finish it. Emily and Amanda are wonderful - so sweet. We hit every subject as we chatted and shopped for odds and ends on High Street. I pass by Magdalene College (see virtual tour link) to get to Oxford centre, among other breathtaking colleges. Haven't been to Wycliffe Hall yet, but I'll take pics when I do. I think that's all for now. I didn't sleep a wink and really need a jet-lag inducing nap (which I won't take). Much love!

So, I just finished uploading lots of pictures onto the other entries. We had our first house meeting and dinner after my last. The meal consisted of french bread, a variety of good cheese, some excellent fruit punch (think tea, apple juice, oj vs. hawaiian), and then it goes a bit... well, different. Creamy meat isn't really my cup of tea. So, duck al orange (spell? Oh, and if this means "good and sort of resembling a bird-shape," this isn't the right dish), pork pate, and venison pate - well... I didn't like pate/foi gras in France. The venison one wasn't half bad, though. And there was a particular sort of baked pork pie that was very good. Some grapes near the end helped everything as well, but I don't think I'll ever enjoy the "exquisiteness" of "the tenderest of meat." Give me tough turkey any day of the week. Ah well. I'm bushed. 'Night all.

Good to hear that your first oxford pub experience was at the 'ole eagle and child. i can say the same, in fact. that was my first pub experience in oxford. although nostalgic, its not my favorite. my pub of choice during my oxford tenure was the rose and crown on north parade (maybe south parade, not sure) in between woodstock and banbury, just up from wycliffe. i lived in a flat on wookstoc... show all
