Decided to do a hike with a ranger today as they are free and it means we don't have to worry about coming across a bear as we know we will be in safe hands. Chose the 10 mile hike to Iceberg Lake as thought it would be good to do a long one. There were 8 of us in the group so not too many and the ranger was a lovely graduate who was very enthusiastic about her job, plus we actually learnt some stuff.

Really long day ( it took 7hours) but worth it. However the only animals we saw were mountain goats (far away) and rough grouse. Even though the ranger warned us that there are a high number of grizzlies and black bears in this area and she was constantly calling out on the trail so that we wouldn't startle them, we still didn't see one! Apparently we also missed a moose and calf by the lake by about 10 minutes - typical! Pete didn't fancy a dip in Iceberg Lake this time - as the name suggests it was freezing.

Staying in a cabin in the Many Glacier area tonight in the park before moving onto Lake McDonald tomorrow.
