30 June - 2 July: Jet lag and alcohol don't mix.

Barely had I got up the next day, that we were out again. First there were the football world cup matches and then there was the clubbing London style. I wouldn't be surprised if more beer was consumed in London than drinking water (sparkling included!) or for that matter if the hole in the ozone layer over UK was more a function of cigarette smoke than of industrialization. I could tell it was going to be difficult not to succumb to the temptation. After the matches, we went to a place called 'The Lights' on the East side to rocking music but a dwindling crowd. We made most of the Friday night disappointment, drank and danced, danced and drank, did get to know a few girls (some better than others!) and finally managed to find our way back home later, or shall I say much later. I said a silent prayer before I turned in hoping the next day would bring in more sleep than sleepiness - didn't know how wrong I could have been. Barely got through the next day's matches that we were on our way to 151 King's street (that I was told was the name of the place as well - no points for guessing its address) to meet up with some of Aditya's friends who were celebrating a friend's hen's night. The music de jjure was schizophrenic at best and thwarted any expectations I might have had of any kind of fireworks and I had to content myself with "getting to know people" in what was ostensibly one of the more happening clubs in London (or so should have been with the 20 quid cover charge). Sunday, we got more sleep and got up well rested first to see England being beat by Portugal in the penalty shootout and then too see my favorites Brazil go out to France in what could only be a called a despirited performance. We witnessed a mini riot after the English loss with beer bottles being broken only a few feet away from where we were getting our snack. The cops coming out in droves to quell the riot provided the only dose of adrenaline on an otherwise quiet (thankfully) Sunday.
