Lyon, France 2008

What A Party!!!

Arrived at Lyon Part Dieu station and walked to the Hotel. Nice hotel, but the room was the smallest I have stayed at. The key though was that the AC worked as it was around 95 degrees, very hot. Did some laundry and then headed out to preview the town. What a neat place. Third largest city in France, but it feels small and has a very nice old town. Lyon is know as the "gastronomy capital" of France. They take their food very seriously and I don't think I have seen more restaurants, bistros, bouchons, cafes or bars in my life.

Had a great meal and then wandered out Lyon 2008

. I had forgotten from previous trips to France on June 21, first day of summer it is a national musical festival. I think every band in France and surrounding countries were playing throughout France that night. I saw at least 50 bands, each on a different street corner or nook and cranny. And that was just in the part of town I was in!! Hundreds of thousands of people were wandering around, it was quite a scene.

Sunday was sightseeing and went to a great WWII Resistance and Deportation museum. It was very hot again and I was back in the AC in the room by 4:00. Another nice meal, then back to the room to get ready for Switzerland, my favorite spot in Europe. The mountains are calling me. On to the Alps and the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
