Left Detroit on Saturday evening and flew Business Class to London Heathrow. Had an arrogant executive type who sat next to me and did not say a word to me the whole flight. He took a couple of pills after takeoff and put his bed back and was out for the flight. Nice meal of beef tenderloin and a great salad. Overall a great flight.
Arrived in Heathrow at 7:00am and took a bus to Gatwick Airport for my next flight to Nantes, France. Had to wait five hours in Gatwick, but the plane was on time and I arrived in Nantes around 5:00 pm. Taxi to the hotel for a shower and nap, before heading out for dinner. Sat outside in a huge square and had a great meal of a large pork rib and a great sauce and fries. The French sure know how to cook!
Monday morning I woke up refreshed and headed out to see the sights. Nantes is a beautiful city with a great Old Town with mostly pedestrian zones. Great shops, restaurants and bars. I picked up a 24 tram pass and headed to the train station to check on my train arrangements for Tuesday to Bordeaux. I was aware from Rick Steves site that Tuesday was a national strike day in France. I checked with the agent and my train was still to run. Then took a water bus on the Loire River to a small fishing village. Neat place, found a cafe on the river, and had a beer at the bar that was a wooden boat, neat!! Back to the room to rest and then dinner at a place next to hotel. Had a New York pizza, very good and then had a Guinness at a Cuban bar, watching Euro soccer. Off to bed and on to Bordeaux tomorrow. Four hours by train.
Here is a welcome video. You made need Apple Quicktime to view. Enjoy.
Any and all comments are welcome!!
