i got to amsterdam just in time for the free walking tour. we started in the main town square in front of the palace (which was covered in scaffolding!) we walked through the red light district to the new market square which led into the jewish quarter. we walked along the canals for a while past a lot of traditional narrow houses. we went back to the town square for a coffee break and by the time the tour started again we'd gone from 30 people to about 10, the weather wasn't great! we walked past the floating flower market to a cathedral and the area of the anne frank house. the tour ended in a pub with only 4 of us making it the whole way! after that i walked around the shopping area for a while, bought dinner then jumped on a tram back to the hostel. the next day i went to the riechs museum and the van gough museum then walked across town to the anne frank museum, which was really good. i crossed back over the city to the jewish quarter where there was a really good flea market. i had just enough time to walk along the canals back to the hostel to get my bags and catch a train to utrecht.
