hey there hi there just thought i would check in and say hi since its been about a month. i try and wait until i have something interesting to talk about before i write a post but sometimes that doesn't happen for months on end so i end up talking about whatever garbage is floating around in my head.......annnnnd here we are.

back on the boat and the first couple of trips of the season we could not go to our usual diving area because it was still closed so we went a bit south, around phuket and phi phi.  so doing a night dive along the bay wall at phi phi i am closely examining the wall for tiny creatures that come out at night like nudibranchs and flatworms and maybe a decorator crab if I'm lucky.  what i did not realize since my nose was pretty much pressed up against the wall was that the rock had turned a bit inward......I'm not sure how long it was before i realized that i had entered into a cave.....on a night dive.  i have to admit that i had about a 30 second full panic because what you have to understand is that something like 90% of diving deaths occur in caves and wrecks. when you have no direct access to the surface things can go badly. when it is night and you are not entirely sure which way the exit is, well then things are just bad.  this is the only time i have truly been afraid for my life and what a horrible way to go, trapped in a cave underwater. i was pretty shaken up for a bit after wards but here i am today, diving like it never happened lol.

had a funny conversation with one of our boat boys the other day.  i use the word "boy" lightly since he is about 50 years old but anyway, he was telling me how he had recently gone to a brothel and gotten quite a heavy set woman for the nights festivities.  i asked him why would he go for a heavy set girl and he said he couldn't afford a good looking one lol.  being the generous guy i am, i told him we (dive staff) could cover the difference but he declined, saying if he had the money he would just get 2 fat ones instead of one beautiful one.  i love that guy.

obama got reelected president the other day.  there is no greater pleasure then watching republicans squirm and try and talk their way out of the fact that they were losing.  if you have not watched Karl roves performance on fox news on election night, i suggest giving it a gander.  complete disconnection from reality.  i know obama wont fix everything and I'm sure there will things that i actively disagree with him on (state marijuana rights) but for the most part i think he will do a much better job then the alternative choice.  on a connected side note, i love how there are groups in 30 states who are trying to file for succession from America.  nothing says patriotism more then wanting to take your toys and go home when the election doesn't go your way.  why have elections in the first place?  not sure if these people understand just how unamerican and disgraceful they really are.....probably not.

IM has gotten a job at a hotel about a block down the road from where we got married. its a bit of a change for her but its a better gig then what she had before. more days off and a bit more pay which is always handy.  She is NOT a happy camper getting up at 6:30am though which I find amusing when its my one day off and i get to lounge around in bed while she is getting ready for work.  ah sweet revenge

IM's sister, AOM (try keeping that one straight) has gotten pregnant with her husband so the thinking is that once the baby is born, grandma will be preoccupied with the new arrival enough for us to take OOM to khao lak with us to stay. we shall see.  I advise not to attempt to understand the inter family relationships and what is considered normal here in Thailand. my father offered to talk to IM to try and persuade her to have OOM come stay with us but i politely declined the offer since it would have been a amusing disaster to be sure but still a disaster.

i finally got the 47' flat screen HDTV I've been wanting. not sure if i mentioned that in the past or not but a new development has been my ability to download HD Chicago bears footballs games and watch them in all their glory. HD sports is really something to behold. i know I'm late to the party on this one but i got a bit of a tear in the eye watching the first game, even if it was at 3am.  both the bears and notre dame are having great seasons. i mean notre dame at 10-0? who the hell would have guessed that one?  all rise and please join in the fight song with me, ahem......cheer cheer for old notre dame.............OK OK enough lol.  much love yo
