it is funny because Im is from northern Thailand so she speaks Laos fluently but still does not like being across the border. just wait until i bring her to America, that will truly fuck with her head but don't worry my constant reader.....i don't think that is going to happen anytime too soon but who knows right?
While we were in bangkok I went down to where the protesters have set up camp (quite literally)
. for those of you who don't pay attention to the news, Thailand is in the middle of some serious political strife that is just ridiculous. try and imagine 20,000 people setting up camp on Michigan avenue (or if you are not from Chicago, whatever passes for the high end shopping district in your city) and then blocking all entrances to said street with stacks of tires and sharpened bamboo poles. how long do you think that would last before the police came in and started bashing heads? maybe 20 minutes? well these people have been there for over 2 months now and all of the upscale shopping in bangkok has been shut down and boarded up in fear of being destroyed by the farmers who have come down from the north to protest. Me being the idiot that I am, i decided to go down and take some pictures of the whole fiasco. this country is craaaazy.
so i do believe that i will be heading down to ko tao for a little bit to try and find a little work and if nothing else, live cheaply for a month or two while trying to conserve my money lol. not the most exciting plan but i am going along the path of being a bit conservative and holding on to some of my cash. i honestly cant wait until September when the dive shop i work for goes traveling around Thailand to advertise with other dive shops and travel agents for the upcoming season. it will at least give me something to do even if it doesn't pay worth a tin shit.
Im and i are on the move and have left Thailand briefly for the desolation of Laos. this is a multi bird attack with one stone so to speak since i needed to get out of the country and take care of some visa issues (Laos being the best place to take care of this) and IM wants to go home and say hi to the family for a week and Vientiane is only about 100km away from where the family is. this is Im's first time out of Thailand and she is not enjoying the experience too much since she cant find food that she likes and it is ridiculously hot right now. Believe it or not Thailand (and the Laos neighbor) has been in the middle of a heat wave so its been even hotter then usual. i think its something like 105 today which is just wroooong.
