well here i am in rainy khao lak.  the boat came back almost two days ago after being at sea for 4 days.  it was definitely a different experience, living on a boat and with a large group of customers for an extended period.  the boat is awesome and the food was not only abundant but really good.  this is definitely a life style in which i can grow accustomed.  the schedule runs something like this.....6:30am wake up and a small snack of fruit and toast. Dive briefing at 7 and in the water at 7:30.  Come back on boat around 8:30 and full breakfast waiting for you.  After breakfast it is tanning and nap time. 10:30 is dive briefing and in the water at 11.  back on the boat at noon and you eat lunch, followed by tanning and napping and shooting the proverbial shit.  The interval between dive 3 and 4 is a bit longer and have a chance to snorkel with turtle or go onto one of the beaches or sleep even more.  dive briefing at 3 and in the water at 3:30.  Back on the boat at 4:30 for some deep fried snacks and tanning.  night dive briefing at 7pm and in the water at 7:30.  out of the water at 8:30 and dinner is waiting for you.  after the last dive of the day (there are 4) the bar opens and you can start in on the beer.  The cabins are air conditioned which is nice...there are 3 bathrooms/showers with hot water which is really nice also.  like i said, its a nice lifestyle and i havent even mentioned how nice the diving is!

The diving is quite different from ko tao for two reasons.  first, the amount of marine life and the variation present just blows ko tao out of the water.  there are leopard sharks, octopus, cuddle fish, pipe fish, shrimp, crabs, manta rays etc etc etc, all of which ko tao does not have.  the second thing that makes it different is the presence of some really strong currents on these dive sites.  you find yourself really struggling sometimes trying to keep your proper buoyancy and going in the proper direction.  i faired pretty well but there were a few times where a giant coral encrusted wall seemed to swerve out of nowhere into my path.....damn corals.

in the end the trip was in essence a job interview and i passed.  it is the beginning of the season here so its not in full swing so at the moment im pretty much just on call for when they need me.  the next week or so i should be back out on the boat but this time being paid for it which is a nice thing.  it will probably be a month or so before i am on the boat every trip but thats ok, it takes the body a little getting used to doing 14 dives in 4 days.

other then my fabulous trip, nothing too new going on over here.  obama won the presidency so I can feel proud once again to be an american.  the headline on "the onion" website was..........."holy shit we elected a black man".  which was just too funny.  for 4 days i was on the boat wondering who won the election...it was driving me crazy.  well hope all is well in your worlds and that this holiday season isnt too big of a drag due to the economy.  stay black and strong and we shall overcome.....just look at obama :)

Glad to hear you got the job. But...isn't drinking the night before going diving a no-no?
