so other then my rantings you may ask whats new and exciting in the life of neal. wellll, i finally made it up into chiang mai which is in northern thailand and although its pretty relaxed and nice, i think i would rather spend my time relaxing at the beach. i went yesterday up to a mountain top temple which had a nice view of chiang mai and then on the way down spent a few hours lounging about at a pretty big waterfall. something about ice cold water on a hot day seems to make every waterfall seem like a bit of paradise. when i build my dream home its going to be at the base of a waterfall....the pounding of the water is just so entrancing. on the way to the temple i met an american....a jewish texan no less....so we hung out for the day and shot the shit. pretty nice guy for sure. he did what my cousin chad used to do, working at jewish youth camps which seems like a decent way to make a living. really funny guy with a very classical "jewishness" about him which was kinda strange coming across in the middle of thailand.
chiang mai has a huge night bazaar and since im trying to get my little tiny export business up, i went and did a bit of shopping to find some products. i never want to spend 5 hours crammed between street stalls again, im just too damn big for all that. but in the end i did find some cool stuff which ill ship back to america in a few weeks. for those of you how are curious, yes the girlfriend is around and im ummmmm supposed to go to her village here in a week or so to meet the family so that should be ummmmm very interesting to say the least. can you say "pitchfork wedding"? all kidding aside she's a sweet girl so its all good.
hey there, hi there and ho there......just dropping a post since its been a while and alot of you havent heard from me. miss me yet? lol. so this weeks rant is going to based around canadians and for those of you from that lovely land and are on my email list, im obviously not too mad at you in particular. the subject of my ire comes from a conversation i had with a canadian guy about my age while in bangkok. it was a friendly enough discussion as we had met a fruit shake street stall and sat in the shade enjoying our respective drinks. being an american overseas you soon discover that all conversations if given enough time, will turn towards politics eventually. the problem is that not everyone has the brain power to speak intelligently about this subject and it seems that a lot of young canadians fall into this category. this guy was the fourth canadian ive met who was absolutely convinced that 9/11 was conducted by the u.s. government for very vague and shady reasons that they could never quite pinpoint other then to say that they "profited" from the insuing war. now im not a big fan of bush, and i'll be the first to say he's an embarrasment to our nation but i dont think he's quite that evil (not to mention no one can keep a secret in washington). the point where i almost hit the guy was when he claimed that he and his friends were so happy when 9/11 happened because america deserved it somehow. the fact that the only reason canada is allowed its peaceful existance in the world and thus allowing this stupid shit to live and breath and be educated (or not) is because of its alliance with the u.s. and its military. these high and mighty canadians always wax poetic about how their country doesnt need a huge military because they are peaceful and are diplomatic. its a nice thought but the real reason is because they have the biggest dog in the neighborhood tied to their front porch.....the u.s. . this jackass went on to argue over the plight of the palestinians and against the blood thirsty israelis and thats when i took my lemon shake and left. im calling for a full invasion of canada just because they are useless and smug and i really think vancouver is cool and i want it.
