Show trip route
the show ended at about midnight so we packed into the car to head towards a campsite that was recommended to us and that was fairly close to downtown anchorage. it took us a few twists and turns to find our way out of the unfamiliar city and amazingly enough, during these twists and turns we stumbled upon every strip club in anchorage. it was as if we had some built in homing breast becon built into us. having absolutely no desire to frequent one of these establishments, we headed out of town and found our nice little campground which was situated right next to a state correctional facility. ok rule number one.......neal likes to stay as far away from prisons as possible. by the time the tent was set up and i was ready for bed it was about 2am with the alarm set for 630am.
amazingly we were up and moving by 645 and on the road by 7am. after catching a little breakfast we headed towards girdwood which is a little hippie town buried deep in a mountain range. alaskas most famous ski mountain is here as is a very posh ski resort. on the way out to girdwood we stopped at bird creek to catch a little scenery and watch the amazing spectacle of "combat fishing". pretty much dozens and dozens of people standing asshole to elbow try to bag their limit in salmon for the day. as we stood on the bridge taking in the sights i looked farther upstream and saw two very large brown bears standing in the water doing a little fishing of their own
after all this we headed up to girdwood and looked around and checked out the resort but the weather was just too crappy to go on any long hikes so after a few hours we headed back into anchorage and did a little bit of necessity shopping before the concert. as for the second concert, well it was in a more traditional setting of a concert hall and the music was friggin stupendous but due to the consumption of certain narcotics, this is all im gonna say about that concert.
