That one big friggin turtle

other then diving i havent really accomplished much other then sitting on the beach or in a bar and chatting up girls in my very very broken thai. i really enjoy these pursuits but as you can probably imagine it leaves a bit of a void when it comes to things to write about. its funny how ive found myself on such a strange schedule of 3 months on and 9 off. during the 9 months it seems like a pretty sweet deal but those 3 months......oh brother lol. its a good time to head back though, most of the guys ive been hanging with have rotated back to england and im pretty much on my own now. just kind of cut my ties for now and go back to my quasi normal life in alaska for awhile. its nice to be able to unpack my bag for 3 months. its also nice to talk to the same people for more then a few weeks so in a way i suppose alaska is my dose of reality even though its a pretty weak dose.
i know ive kinda left the blog hanging here for a few weeks but to be honest i havent done all that much worth writing about. I finally made it back down to ko tao and did my advanced open water certification and added another 7 dives to my log book. the visibility was amazing and saw quite a few moray eels and stingrays. i did a night dive and well that was more then a bit frightening at first. the divemaster was going over all the procedures and information while waiting for the sun to set and all of the sudden this HUGE school of small fish start to jump and skip across the water...at this point the dive master says "wow, something really big must be chasing them." just what you dont want to hear before diving into the inky blackness of the ocean at night. the dive itself was actually really relaxing and interesting, the fish change shifts at sunset so you get a whole other set of creepy crawly things to marvel at. the highlight by far was when this immense shape materialized out of the void and took the form of an absolutely immense sea turtle just gliding through the reef in search of something to munch on. we all just floated in amazement as she passed by with such silence and grace. my plan is materialzing for next season and looks like ill be living on ko tao for about 6 months to do my dive master. the price is $700 for unlimited dives so im going to take full advantage of it and just dive and dive and dive right after the monsoon ends which is in december. if anyone wants to come visit, you'll know where i'll be.
