My plans for this trip is already starting to unravel. The plan for today was to watch the Steelers here in Vegas. After the game my mom and I are driving to Lake Havasu, AZ. I could not convince my brother to join us for a few days. So far this month, Bill has had a bad run in the casinos and he had about $800 of promotional free play which he has to use this week or they expire. On my way to AZ, I planned on stopping at the Hoover Dam until I found out that the Steelers are playing at Foxboro at 4 pm Eastern or 1 pm here. Fortunately, mom and I were up early this morning to watch football, so we decided to hit the road early in order to arrive in Lake Havasu in time for the game. This means I will not be stopping at Hoover Dam...oh well maybe some other time.
It was a good thing that I decided not to drive along 93 to the Hoover Dam. When 93 and 95 split there were signs warning to expect long traffic delays at the dam. We are staying at a condo on Lake Havasu Island. I was slightly disappointed with the accommodations. I have used timeshare exchanges throughout the country and world. So when I reserve a one bedroom which sleeps four people, I am expecting at least two rooms; a bedroom and a living room with a pullout sofa bed. Instead, we got one room will a sliding screen door which separated the "bedroom" from the "living room". There was barely enough room in the "living room" to pull out the sofa. Fortunately, my mom is small enough to comfortably sleep on the sofa. Another thing that irked me was that the refrigerator was in the "bedroom" and the jacuzzi right next to the bed was a little like a scene from a '70 porn movie. One good thing was it was a beach front room with the lake right outside the window.
The first thing we did after laughing about the accommodations was to turn on the TV for the Steelers game. To our horror, the network was showing the Denver Broncos game instead. After frantically calling a few bars in the phone book, we found one which had the Steelers game on, McKee's Irish Pub. There were a few people there watching the Jets game, but we were able to find a table close to a TV and we had the bartender switch to the Steelers-Pats game. The bar had a good local ale on tap, Flat Tire, and the food was decent. It was good that we showed up when we did because the grill was getting ready to shut down for the day.?! In typical Steelers style, it was a very defensive game with most of the excitement coming from the numerous turnovers that the Steelers managed to force on the Patriots. I was doubly glad that the Steelers won because I had a friendly wager with my boss for a Chipotle burrito.
