As the plane makes its approach to McCarran Airport, you can feel the excitement in the air. Funny thing...this time, I was not sharing in the group's energy. This blase' reaction could be attributed to several things. First, Vegas is not my destination this trip; I will be driving down to Lake Havasu, AZ where I will spend the majority of my stay. Since I was here at the beginning of the month for some gambling, I will not be visiting any of the gaming tables this trip. Also usually part of my excitement coming to Vegas is seeing my mom and brother. Since my mom has spent the month with me in DC, it did not feel the same with my mom accompanying me on the return trip back.
Somehow we arrived 30 minutes early. Usually westward flights take longer due to the jet stream, but I think we benefited from a southernly trough on our flight from Chicago. Unfortunately, this unexpected schedule change conflicted with my brother's plan on picking us up at the airport. My brother,Bill, needed to be present for a cash drawing which he has spent some considerable time and money accruing entries. It took over an hour before he arrived to get us at the airport's passenger pick-up area. While waiting, I found some amusement watching another lady complete about 6 laps around the airport as she was waiting for the arrival of the person she was picking. I guess they did not have the favorable tailwind. Another group rented a loooong stretch limo, but the vehicle was not big enough to contain their excitement as they were singing and dancing out the sun roofs. My mom got excited because she thought Bill might have won one of the big cash prizes, since he is taking so long to get here. When Bill arrived, he reported he did win $500. According to him it was not worth his time, but I found it enjoyable people watching while I waited.
