We pulled an 12 hour work day, today. I was hoping to drive up to the White Sands National Monument to watch the sun set, but the sun was almost down when I left the facility. I still manage to do a little exploring. Off of Highway 70, there was a little Space Mural Museum, which closed at 7 pm; however I was able to take some pictures through the fence line. The mural was painted on a water tank...a common practice in this area because I saw several water tank murals. On one side the mural depicted the 3 astronauts lost in the Apollo 1 fire and the other side was a tribute to the Challenger 7. There were also models of various rockets including the Space Shuttle.
I continue my wandering by driving around the city. Stopped in a dive bar, Hurricane Alley, for a quick pint. Also I stopped at an Italian restaurant, Lorenzo's. I had to do a little talking because I walked in 5 minutes after 9 and they were closed at 9. Fortunately, they agreed to serve me. The place was no frills but the lasagna was delicious and quite filling. The service was friendly especially considering I was keeping them there late...since I had a long day, why shouldn't someone else.
