I got a call from Liz, Marty's wife, because she was interested in joining us for a round of golf.  I originally made a tee time for 3 so I called Ford's Colony hoping to get a tee time for a foursome maybe for a different course other than Blackheath...I played it yesterday.  I did get another tee time at 12:00 but still for Blackheath.  Liz got a babysitter for the kids and met us at the golf course.  The later tee time worked well for Mike and Steve, also, because they did not arrive into Williamsburg until 3 this morning.  I went to guest services to get the "Member for 3 days" discount coupon for Liz; hoping that maybe Marty could also use the discount later this week.

My round started identically to yesterday's round with a perfect 3 wood shot over the fairway bunker onto the green.  I warned Mike that it was possible to drive through the fairway into water, so Mike clubbed down to a 3 wood also...he should have gone with the 5 wood because he found the water.  Again I placed my third shot into the left green-side bunker.  This time the lie was not as bad as yesterday but I failed to get out of the bunker on the first try.  This was an indication of how my remaining round will go.  I finished with a 106; fourteen shots more than yesterday.

Liz and Marty use to golf a lot before the kids.  Occasionally you would see glimpses of Liz's capabilities, but for the most part you can tell she is quite rusty.  Between Liz and mine struggles and the fact that we were probably the only foursome out on the course, we were definitely the slow group on the course.  Of course, we would let people play through as they came up to us.  By #12 we were four hours into the round and Liz had to leave because of the babysitter.  Steve and I waited at the tee box while Mike drove Liz back to the clubhouse.  The good thing about playing Blackheath again is I get another shot at the island green on the eighteenth hole.  Unlike yesterday when I lost one ball into the water on my approach to the green, I lost TWO balls.  I hooked my drive into the lake on the left.  Since the lake was red staked, I dropped approximately where I entered the water.  I over clubbed on my third shot and over flew the green into the water.  I have a personnel two ball limit on any hole and gave myself a double par (8) on the hole.

Six hours later, we finally finished the round.  I was too hungry to go anywhere except the clubhouse tavern to get something to eat.  We had some fried oyster with an excellent artichoke dip for appetizer.  For the main meal, Steve and I had their Ultimate Burger served with a fried egg as a burger topping.  Although it was not as messy as a Coney Island "Sundowner" which tops this fried egg burger with chili, it still hit the spot.  I washed this meal down with a local beer, "Shock Top".  After a long day and a good meal, we did not have the energy to do anything else tonight but watch a DVD.  Guest services had free DVDs to rent but their collection was unusual...I think it was comprised of unclaimed DVDs left by previous guest.  The movie du jour was "Flags of out Fathers", which Mike had never seen.  I thought it was a good patriotic movie to get us in the mood for the 4th of July.
