Both Mike, co-worker/friend, and I worked extra hours in the middle of the week so we could leave early Friday to drive down to Williamsburg.  The drive should only take 3 hours but with Friday traffic around Washington DC...who knows how long it will take.

First stop was to pick up the various tickets from the MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation).  Mike is still in the Navy reserves and I was a former Navy officer, so I do not feel too bad taking advantage of the military discounts.  Our first challenge was finding the MWR office.  The closest facility was on Fort Belvoir; however when we got to the building there was a sign indicating they moved to another location with the new location address and building number.  Unfortunately neither Mike nor I was that familiar with the layout of the Army post, so we both starting calling various numbers trying to get directions.  We were joined by two other guys who were also were in the same predicament.  Eventually between the four of us we got the directions and caravan-ed to the MWR office.  Since we were going to be in Williamsburg both weekends, Mike and I purchased the Freedom Pass (season pass to Colonial Williamsburg), American Heritage Pass (season pass to Yorktown and Jamestown) and a season pass to Busch Gardens/Water Country USA.  I hope we get to use it all the next week and a half.

You may be asking why I am traveling to Williamsburg two weekends in a row.  Well the short story is that I was trying to arrange a weekend gathering of friends from high school and exchanged my timeshare week for a week in Williamsburg Plantation for the week of the 4th.  Williamsburg is somewhat centrally located.  Unfortunately, my friends could not make it on the 4th weekend but possibly could get together the weekend before, so I started to make arrangements for the last weekend in June.  Eventually those plans were canceled also...so I had reserved a golf package for the weekend in June and a time share stay for the weekend in July.  Instead of canceling my plans, I decided to invite some friends from work who I frequently play golf with.

On our way down, we got traffic reports from another co-worker, Marty, who actually lives in Williamsburg.  As expected, traffic was heavy especially on Interstate 95 around Fredricksburg and Interstate 64 entering Williamsburg.  We rolled into our hotel, Governor's Inn, around 4pm so it was a 4 hours drive...not too bad.  The Governor's Inn was not anything special but it was located close to Colonial Williams burg and it was the cheapest lodging option for the Golden Horseshoe Golf and Stay package.  I invited Marty to join us golfing either Saturday or Sunday, but the weekend green fees for the Golden Horseshoe ($149 Gold course/ $84 Green course) was a little steep for Marty.
