On my way home to DC, I decided to visit some friends, Drew and Lacey. Drew and Lacey was on my volleyball team for several years until last August, when they moved to North Carolina and got married in October. Fortunately when I called them on Thursday, they had no plans for the Memorial Day weekend, so we planned on having dinner at their home on Sunday. As I was driving through the neighborhood of Lochmere to get to their home, I was awed at all the beautiful homes in the development. No one I know would have been able to afford these spacious homes in DC.
At the door, I was greeted by Kona, their 7 month old French poodle. While we waited for Lacey (she was out getting ice cream), Drew gave me the tour of the house. On the first floor you had the dining room, parlor, living room, bathroom and kitchen with a patio which extended to a yard spacious enough for Kona to rollick among the numerous trees. Drew and Lacey are still in the process of making this house their home, so you can see swaths of fabric as they determine what furniture pieces match what rugs and art work. As a matter of fact Drew was telling me they spent the whole day shopping for more furniture pieces because one of the stores was going out of business and offering 60% discounts...aren't all furniture stores always having liquidation sales. On the 2nd floor, there is the "bonus" room (room above the garage) which serves as the entertainment room with the HD TV and the bar. Also they have a den (acting as Kona's pen during the night), the master bedroom with two walk-in closets, and jacuzzi in the bathroom. There is also a guess bedroom with a bathroom. On the third floor there was another bedroom with bath and a huge storage room. The house also had several skylights (3, i think)...Really nice house and also located in a golf community...bonus!
Over a dinner of beef fajitas and Shiner Bock beer, we had some of Lacey's famous guacamole and caught up. Drew and Lacey stirred up the neighborhood when they first moved in because of their youthful looks the neighbors thought they were in their twenties and somehow their parents paid for the house. Also some of the neighborhood women were shocked in the beginning when Lacey stated they were not married yet...Welcome to the Bible Belt. Lacey has found one working woman, lawyer, to befriend and is trying her best to fit in with the at home mothers. Lacey is playing on a USVBA volleyball team. Unfortunately Drew has been sidelined with some ankle injuries...fortunately both his chiropractor and personnel physician lived in the neighborhood and has given Drew their personnel numbers...Welcome to the South. We had ice cream and cookies while watching the TV. Drew and Lacey offered to have me spend the night and I quickly accepted since I could barely keep my eyes open.
In the morning we had some muffins and fruit. We entertained ourselves watching the squirrels try to get up the bird feeder, which Drew had greased to prevent such thievery. They gave me a little tour of their spice garden, which reminded Lacey she needed some rosemary for dinner and went to get some from one of the neighbors. I met the family doctor, wife and daughter as they were taking a stroll around the neighborhood. I thanked Drew and Lacey and hit the road.
