Another beautiful day in paradise here. My little room at the Posade de la Merced is cuter than you could imagine.
The trip from Guatemala City yesterday was longer than expected, much road construction slowed us down. Finally arrived in Antigua around 4 or 5, found a great little place to have some food close to the hotel.
Following the suggestion of a fellow traveler I met on the shuttle I caught a tuk-tuk later and went to a place called Mono Loco (crazy monkey). The advice was good, beer was really cold, people friendly and they knew how to locate some of Guatemala┤s finest organic. Sweeeeet! It was still really early so I caught another tuk-tuk to a place called La Pena where they have free live music 7 days a week. The band last night but I think the one tonight may be more to my taste, so I┤m gonna give it a whir. Tuk-tuks are the little 3 wheeled taxis that are everywhere. You can get anywhere for a buck or two. Keep in mind, we are talking cobble stone streets here, hold on to your kidneys, but they are a lot of fun. Most of the drivers really decorade & personalize, sorta like the chicken buses. Hopefully I can find my camera cord and get some photos on here.
Here┤s my funniest experience for the day (so far). I was passing a group of Mayan women, full traditional dress, carrying the big bundles on their heads....and one of their cell phones rang! I got a photo. ═┤m looking forward to heading to the mountains tomorrow. There are more English speakers in Antigua than there are in Belmont, for heaven┤s sake.
Thanks for all the good wishes!
