We only have 308 miles today so we made our first potty stop at a rest area in the Silver Bow Creek Reservation. Really a nice rest area and view of the mountains. Then we went on and stopped at the Bearmouth rest area along a stream. Weather has been awesome and warm. There were lots of people that picked this stop. Check out the bear bait (bikers) along the side of the road.
Missoula, MT gets us to our northernly route to Canada. Just before Polsen, MT were the most beautiful views of the mountains, which appear very close
. In this area there are signs for falling rocks along the roadway. Also a tunnel kinda in the middle of nowhere. Near Polsen was the KOA that we stayed in on our 2010 trip. It also has a park for large RV's where you can purchase a lot for about $ 100K. What a view from these sites. It's at the south end of Flathead Lake. Mike and Randi Steckler know this area very well as they lived just north of here in Columbia Falls. As our first two day stop, which was extremely welcome, we arrived at Edgewater Motel and RV Park in Lakeside, MT. This is a great place. Just across the street from great views of the mountains along Flathead Lake on the East. You can see the water level is low, but not sure why. Not many boats will be able to use the docks right now.
Our sites are opposing, or buddy sites, so we have a large patio between us. There are also cabins and Richard told us that in summer it is impossible to get a reservation it's so busy. It also had a neat sign as you went out the door.
Fran and Richard are the managers, and they are very friendly and helpful. I am running out of Wash & WaxAll so was able to stock up in the office. They stay in Florida and Arizona in the winter and manage this park in the summer.
We walked down the street south to the Tamarack Inn for dinner
. Fran had suggested we split dinners but who was listening. We had lots of doggy bags to bring back lunch for tomorrow. They had a great "Huckleberry Naked Berry" desert that was to die for. Again it was hugh but I had some help finishing it. Right next to our outdoor seating was a small stream which is featured in a short video clip. We passed a small church with a neat sign out front.
We were again awoken by the parking lot sweeper that must be a Walmart tradition or a way to get back a RVer's. We circled the wagons and started West for our next gas stop at Flying J in Belgrade, MT. Dave also filled his propane tank which is quite small. As we have a heat pump, we don't use the furnace all that much.
