Denali & Victory Ministries of Alaska
Trip Start May 15, 2010
28Trip End Jun 10, 2010
Filled up again, and gas was $ 3.49. Getting better! We started toward Anchorage on our way to Victory. The haze and smell of smoke was very strong and we thought it would hamper seeing Mt. McKinley. As we got closer the skies cleared but Denali was not totally out. From the north you don't get much of a view. We stopped at the Denali State Park Alaska Veterans Memorial and had lunch. As we’re driving, a fox lumbers down the side of the road just minding his own business but we were not quick enough to get his picture
Took a side jaunt to Telkeetna, one of our favorite quaint little towns. As this is Memorial weekend it was packed with visitors. Found a place to pack the rig near the walk to the river. This is another great viewing spot for Denali. The top half of the summit was out and had many picture takers present. We continued on toward Wasilla and on to Palmer for another fill up. The mountains that surround Wasilla and Anchorage are really a great sight and one we had forgotten about.
We arrived at Victory about 7:00 pm. The road and entrance have been greatly improved. We passed Rod VanDamm’s house which has a for sale sign out. We hooked up and have all the amenities of home, water, electric and sewer. Have not seen many folks and it looks deserted. It is Saturday night on a holiday weekend. Tomorrow we are going to breakfast in "Miracle Hall" at 9:00 am and then to Glacier View church at 10:30 on the bus for church services. Looking forward to seeing those we remember from 2007.
