The start of our first day of the "Great Adventure". As I woke, the words of a worship song came to mind as I walked among the motor homes watching the sunrise. "As morning dawns and evening fades, you inspire songs of praise, that rise from earth to touch your heart, and glorify your name".

Then we started with an orientation. They showed us a DVD of all the problems one could encounter and what to not do on this trip. Turn to sharp, take out all low hanging limbs and no short tunnels, etc. Then a final check of the paperwork and we got our keys. Our unit had 10.9 miles. To think we will have in excess of 4,000 miles when we arrive in Alaska, WOW!!

As we were in the first group, we were gone by 9:00 am. First stop, the local grocery store to stock up for the inital time. Then we headed west toward Sioux City. It seemed forever to see the first 100 miles tick off. We stopped in Sioux City at the Walmart for other things we didn't get the first stop. Cheap, I mean inexpensive folding chairs, etc. Tried to find the local Great Harvest Bread store but it was closed. Have three more along the way we hope to stop for that delicious bread.

After Sioux City, mile 180, flat lands, and more flat lands, cows and more cows, and no restaurants. We pulled off at numerous exits and decided to keep going. The word prairie is appropriate. We saw a sign that highlighted the home of Laura Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie. Our first night on the road is in Wall SD, Sleepy Hollow RV Camp. It's on the edge of the Badlands National Park. A total of 485 miles today. Our unit now set for the night and time to get pictures downloaded so I can upload tomorrow.
