We switched hostals in Arequipa, our new one being same price, much nicer, and not including expensive laundry service or expensive breakfast. It does, however, include swanky Marilyn posters in every room.
We wanted to catch up on our sightseeing today, because our last sightseeing day in Arequipa was Sunday, when most things were closed. Nathan wasnŽt feeling well, so we didnŽt go too crazy, but saw the inside of La Compańia catholic church and the Andean Mummy museum, featuring Juanita the frozen mummy. I feel that all the museums weŽve visited in Peru would benefit immensely from some simple labels. Anyway, the artifacts in this collection were in amazing condition, all about 500 years old and frozen on mount Apamato until 1995, when a mountaineering fellow called Reinhardt discovered an ancient Incan ceremonial ground. A total of three mummies were found at this site, all children, and all human sacrifices to appease the angry mountain gods. Sorry I canŽt provide any photos of my own (none were allowed inside the museum, which was also pitch black and freezing cold, for preservation, I suppose), but IŽll stick a couple in here.
We bought a bus ticket to Cuzco which leaves in just a couple of hours. WeŽll arrive sometime around 6am. There will be photos one day, I promise.
