Our drive from Wanaka to Te Anau had one obligatory stop.... River Anduin from the Lord of the Rings. Nathalie was all excited again, and I must admit it was really nice, the river flows under a bridge where they do bungy jumping (the first place in the world where commercial bungy jumping was being practiced). Of course we did it........ NOT!

Both of us were chickens... But.. nice to watch!

We had a little lunch break in wonderful Queenstown which is the largest city down south here and which has a very nice little lakefront. We reserved our Milford Sound cruise which we scheduled for Tuesday.

After Queenstown our drive went on to Te Anau over a rather boring road and were happy when we arrived in Te Anau but had a couple of deceptions as the city was/is dead (the season didn't start yet) and the B&Bs we wanted to stay in were just overpriced (and not really sympathetic), so we decided to stay in the Youth Hostel once again.

After a good night's sleep we got up early for our Milford Sound Cruise. The road to Milford Sound was really spectacular and we were lucky that the road was open because quite often in winter you need to carry snow chains. The landscape and the mountains around this road were completely breathtaking, again we let the pictures do the talking because it was simply undescribable.

We arrived at the cruise terminal, which is the starting point for ship cruises through the Milford Fiords (yes it is written with an "i") which is supposed to be the highlight of any New Zealand travel, and it definitely was!

Just have a look at these pictures down below, very steep mountains combined with the sea. The ship we booked (luckily it was one of the smaller tour operators) stopped at the waterfalls, and even at one particular waterfall filled up water cups with the water coming from the top. The water was so tasty and fresh, unbelievable. We then went on and admired the breathtaking landscape before getting nearer and nearer to the shore where in the end we saw real penguins!!! Amazing!!

This cruise in the fiords was just fantastic and definitely one of the highlights of our travel in NZ. Tomorrow we are going to Dunedin. Our journey is coming closer to its end unfortunately...
